THE STACKABLE 9 VOLT BATTERY SHIELD FOR chipKIT / ARDUINO / CHIPINO STYLE MODULES.
The Battery-Shield makes it easier to power your portable chipKIT / Arduino / CHIPINO Style project. It gives you the same power as a 9 volt battery but in the form of a shield. This also allows you to easily stack Battery-Shields for more power. And each shield has its own on/off switch to selectively enable or disable a Battery-Shield.
The Battery-Shield supplies power through the VIN and GND pins on the Power header. The height of the Battery-Shield allows other shields to be stacked on top so the Battery-Shield can be anywhere in your stack of shields.
Output: 9 volts (6 x 1.5v AAAA)
Capacity: 545 ma/h (using Energizer AAAA Batteries)
I'm Chuck Hellebuyck and I've been an electronics hobbyist for over 40 years. I've written articles for Nuts & Volts and published eight books on programming microcontrollers. I really like using the Arduino style modules for all my projects. I've used chipKIT, CHIPINO, Arduino and others but the one thing I often wanted was an easy way to power the module from a shield to make my stack of shields portable. I wanted a low cost replacement battery style not a rechargeable. A 9 volt was too large and so were AAA batteries. Then I discovered the AAAA battery. It's almost the same size as the cells used in a 9 volt. So I created the Battery-Shield for my own use and found it so handy I decided to see if others wanted to help move this from prototype to production by supporting this kickstarter project.
I plan to open source the design when the kickstarter goal is met. The funding will pay the production tooling and volume purchasing of parts for the kickstarter rewards plus the website costs for the open source design. A successful Kickstarter project will also prove that people agree that the battery-shield is a very handy shield to have.
If enough people want a fully assembled unit, I have contract manufacturers right here in Michigan ready to handle the assembly.
Our plan is to start shipping rewards out 30 days after all funding is complete.
We will be ordering the boards and parts first to get them well within the 30 days. The bare boards and kits will ship out as soon as we receive the parts. At the same time we will start supplying the assembly house with kits to get us assembled boards quickly and get them shipped out.
We plan to have all rewards shipped by December.
The Battery-Shield is a nine volt shield to power your chipKIT, CHIPINO, Arduino or any other Arduino style module.
STACKS ON TOP OF ANY chipKIT, CHIPINO, ARDUINO STYLE MODULE
The module supplies 9 volt power to any Arduino style module through the VIN and GND pins on the Arduino header. A power switch is also included to turn power on and off.
STACK THE SHIELDS FOR MORE POWER
You can stack the Battery-Shield on top of other Battery-Shields for longer lasting power. The low profile of the Battery-Shield also allows you to stack any chipKIT, CHIPINO, Arduino style shield on top.
You can get AAAA batteries anywhere including office supply stores and Radio Shack.
WORKS with any ARDUINO STYLE MODULE
It was tested on chipKIT, ARDUINO and CHIPINO and should work with any of these style boards that accepts VIN power and GND on the 6-pin POWER Connector.
BATTERY-SHIELD BARE BOARD
You can get the Battery-Shield bare board to make a more custom design.
You can get a Battery-Shield kit of parts.
FULLY ASSEMBLED BATTERY-SHIELD
You can get a Battery-Shield fully assembled. All you need to add is batteries from Radio Shack or any office supply that carries AAAA.
Fully Assembled BATTERY-SHIELD w/BATTERIES
You can get a fully assembled Battery-Shield with brand new Energizer AAAA batteries.
Help make the Battery-Shield a real product by supporting this kickstarter project.
