What is Indie Rock? A sound, a movement, an ideal? After 30 years, why is it still so mysterious? Surely there is more to say about the largest and longest-running rock and roll movement of modern times?
Join us in making history: give your indie rock heroes the pop-culture celebration they deserve by pledging your support today!
JUST GIMME INDIE ROCK! is a feature documentary about four transformative decades of American music and culture.
Beginning with the pioneers of the 80s independent label scene (Sonic Youth, Husker Dü). through the underground explosion that was 90s indie rock (Pavement, Elliott Smith) to the non-stop indie pop world of today (Arcade Fire, Black Keys), JUST GIMME INDIE ROCK! will be the first documentary to connect the dots between these divergent eras of indie music.
HELP US TELL THE GREATEST STORY NEVER TOLD!
For the first time ever, JUST GIMME INDIE ROCK! will document our
generation's contributions to music, art, and culture. Just imagine: the bands
and fans; the labels and scenes; DIY and lo-fi; zines and record stores;
hipsters and indie film; low brow and poster art; underground comics
and alternative comedians; and the technological sea change that swept
it all up from the underground while flattening the corporate status
quo. Set it to the soundtrack of a generation, stand back, and watch history in the making.
Most importantly, JUST GIMME INDIE ROCK! will rock. Whether it's a beautiful eight-camera shoot of Guided by Voices recent reunion, a classic Superchunk music video, or an intimate performance by Devendra Banhart procured from a new generation of pocket-video toting fans, JUST GIMME INDIE ROCK! will let the music speak for itself. Ultimately, we want to bring the thrill of discovery
that comes with being an indie rock fan to a mass audience and to
EITHER YOU CAN MAKE JUST GIMME INDIE ROCK! HAPPEN OR "THEY" CAN (WE PREFER YOU).
way we see it, indie rock at its core and at its best, is a grassroots
movement. It's uncorrupted and uncompromising art rock that thrives on a
direct relationship between those who have something rare to give and
those who want to support it. There are many avenues we could have
taken to fund this film, but only one made any sense to us: we want YOU to make JUST GIMME INDIE ROCK! a reality.
