Dan and Ann Dow will be declared cured of cancer in early July, 2012. They will be setting sail for Hawaii on July 16th. This dream has been their lifeline and it is finally being realized. But a lot can happen in three weeks at sea.
That's why I'm coming along with my wife Jatta as crew. Not only will we be standing watches, we'll install camera's around the boat to capture all the action, adventure, and special moments that filmmakers can catch only by coming along.
This documentary is about more than 2,200 miles at sea. Once we reach Hawaii, we'll sail with the Morning Star to some of the remote islands that are only accessible by boat. In addition, we'll get to know some of the other racers in the Pacific Cup and follow their adventure as well. When the film is "in the can" it won't be about the ocean and boats. It'll be about people. Ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
We need your help to pull this off. We need to buy camera's, editors, and other equipment. Making a film isn't cheap. We have to hire narrators, musicians, TV stations, and TV promotion specialists. We have to pay for advertising, film festivals, and travel. Most of this will come out of our own pockets. A typical documentary film has a budget of $200,000. We can't even get started without the camera's and that is why we're asking you to get involved. Just giving us a chance to start is all we need for our own dreams.
And remember, if we don't reach our goal then all of the support so far will be returned to the donors! So, even if you can't back us right now, please spread the word!
