We are trying to raise funds to open a not-for-profit/all-ages/collectively run/safe/DIY music, performance, arts, gathering and creation space for Greenville, SC. The vision is to have a building where all people from this area would be allowed to create and showcase art while building lasting supportive relationships; whether it be circus performance, a practice space for a new band, a recording studio, a show space, screen printing space, a safe hang out for exchanging ideas or a meeting place for non-profit organizations . We want this to be a rad space where everyone is welcomed and everyone is accepted, but the safety of all is a priority.
There is a collective effort of about 15-20 supporters of this space that live in Greenville, this Kickstarter and the benefit shows is a collaboration of those efforts. There have been some funds raised through benefit shows and other donations, however, this Kickstarter will provide the opportunity for anyone that wants to offer solidarity in opening a collectively run DIY show space.
Most people that live in or have played in Greenville agree that we have something special here. Please help us get our new space off on the right start by donating. The money will be spent to cover beginning costs of operation. The goal is $300, but of course to provide a lasting DIY space we will need more than that. We plan on opening the space in January of 2013. Thank you very much for your support of DIY Greenville.

Risks and challenges
Greenville has had DIY spaces for around 5 years now, an ever flowing and changing cast of houses, warehouses, and strip mall store fronts. They have been shut down due to cleanliness and building condemnations. The short falls of prior spaces were the inability of future planning and the fact that we were in the city of Greenivlle. Now we seek to build something permanent. This time, we are moving out of the city and into the county of Greenville, where laws on businesses are more lax. However, we want to plan out a strong stable community DIY space; so we want to begin it with something like a kickstarter to show true communal support.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
