The big picture is this: Airship G.F.Y. is a comedy-education Steampunk performance troupe just starting out. Our goal is to help people broaden their perspectives on Steampunk character creation and especially costuming by educating them on the historical basis of the subculture. We're doing this through educational lectures and panels ranging in topics from the Industrial Revolution to prostitution during the Victorian era to the effects that the movement had all around the world in the Nineteenth Century and, of course, true Victorian Science Fiction. Although that may not sound terribly exciting, we deliver all of our well-researched information with a saucy, tongue-in-cheek humor that leaves our audiences wondering if we hate each other or if we've been best friends since infancy. Also, bountiful cleavage is assured.
Also included in our repertoire is an adults-only variety show to be performed, hopefully, each con we do! The show includes ribald humor, raunchy Period songs spanning two to three centuries prior to the Victorian Era, and exciting interludes of burlesque!
The more specific picture: We need money for costuming materials. (One more than the other, but the other still could use the materials for repair and refining.) While I'm sure you'd all be thrilled if we did this in our underwear, not every show is burlesque, nor are all the members of our crew! This whole thing fell together VERY quickly and VERY unexpectedly, and our first con is San Japan, the first weekend of August! This gives us one month to put everything together, which is NOT a lot of time, and provides no time to budget for costumes while continuing to pay our bills. So the money you donate will help provide us what we need to make beautiful, period costumes that break out of your typical Steampunk mold.
Any money NOT used to fund costuming (Because this is an estimate, and who knows what kind of awesome sales JoAnn's will be having?) will go toward merch, which we're also working on RIGHT NOW to try to have out by San Japan.
