Hi everyone! This is the end. I regret to inform you that after 15 years and 10 Say Hi and Say Hi To Your Mom records, I am officially retiring the band. However, there’s one unfinished piece of business I wanted to get done before I do. The first four albums have never existed on vinyl, so I wanted to do a one time pressing before calling it quits. Many of you have asked about getting these Say Hi To Your Mom records over the years, so my hope is that enough people are interested to make it happen. I wish that I could just cover the cost and do the pressing myself, but alas, it’s hard these days to gauge people’s interest in spending money on music, so if goal is reached, HOORAY!, the records will be pressed! And if not, welp, we had a good run. The completist in me has my fingers crossed. It would be a life-long dream realized to hear “Let’s Talk About Spaceships” or “Blah Blah Blah” hugged by some dusty, warm and gooey wax. Perhaps you agree?
I’d love it if those of you with extra $$$ took a look at some of the higher priced rewards, as many of them would help push the project past the goal, and that would mean that the pressing could happen no matter what. And then everyone interested can get their copies and you can get cool stuff, like me to clean your house. Or a pizza dinner. Or an original song written about you!
Also, for extra, extra incentive, I have put a monetary value on what it would take for A) me to change the name of the band back from Say Hi to Say Hi To Your Mom forever (another frequent request over the years) and B) for me to abandon all this nonsense about retiring and instead get back to making cool records about vampires and stuff. These might seem like silly goals, but I am 100% committed to making them happen, should you have the funds available!
It would be great if you kept a couple things in mind. One, these will not be fancy, schmancy deluxe-packaged records. They will be utilitarian at heart like the other Say Hi records: two panels, with a robot on one side, a black and white insert and standard weight 33rpm black vinyl. Two, if the goal is reached, any surplus copies from this one-and-only pressing will be put into stores. This might mean that a handful of copies will be available that way or it might mean that MORE than a handful will be available that way. It’s too hard to tell, so please know that the only way to guarantee yourself copies of the records you want is to buy them now via the Kickstarter. Three, I am not particularly excited about how I have had to price the vinyl and the shipping costs, but, vinyl is expensive to produce and expensive to ship, so, here we are …
Finally, the small number of pressing plants still in existence means that there can be quite the wait for a project, especially given the format’s current popularity as well as the number of exclusives manufactured by a thousand record labels for things like Record Store Day. If funded, this project will go into production as soon as the Kickstarter has ended, but please prepare for the fact that it can take up to six or seven months to ship to you, depending on the current demand at pressing plants. I will share all the timeline info with backers as I receive it.
So there you have it! Thank you for the support over the years, everyone. And thanks in advance for the support in getting these records pressed once and for all!
Say Hi To Your Eric
Risks and challenges
There aren't a ton of risks involved with this project. If it gets funded, the vinyl will be produced and delivered. If not, it won't, and you won't be charged.
I will reiterate that it can take a long time to get the records back from the pressing plant, so please be aware of that delay.
Also, for those of you outside the US, please be aware that any taxes, import fees or tariffs imposed by your government will need to be arranged and paid for on your end.
Other than that, there is the challenge of me being super sad if this project does not get funded!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
