Making Mail is a documentary showcasing a special group of young artists who make use of mail to share their art with others around the world. With just an envelope and whatever can fit inside as their medium, these incredibly talented people create original and breathtaking pieces of art:

In a world where most communication has moved online, these people have embraced the physicality of mail and turned it into an incredibly intimate art form.

Our documentary plans on exploring these remarkable pieces of mail, the people who make them, and their unique place in the fast-paced, noise-filled age of Facebook and Instagram.

To do this, we plan on interviewing creators and recipients alike from around the country. Travel and production costs won't be cheap though. As such, we're asking supporters to help out.

Risks and challenges

We are working on a relatively loose timeline. Many long days have already been spent on this film, and we have many more scheduled. With our documentary, we are traveling across the country, just as the artists' letters have. The distance poses a difficult challenge for our film crew. While we work best as an entire unit, it is costly to fly everyone to places such as Utah or New York.

The sheer amount of artists in the film gives us great opportunity to spread their vision with this film, but compiling them all together at one time is near impossible. Furthermore, their commitment to the film has led them to offer their unique and specific set of skills to the production. Art by these individuals will be available as rewards for donors. Though the time and money that goes into their creation will be largely unseen, that does not excuse the dedication they have all given to this production.

Finally, when all is said and done, we want as many people to see "Making Mail" as possible. Our goal is to take it on the festival circuit, screening the film in as many places as possible. Inevitably, that plan means once again travelling across the country. We believe strongly in our message though, and believe it will be well received by any audience.

Being an independent film crew, the challenges of self-funding a project weigh heavily on every decision we make. With funding support from the Kickstarter community, we will be able to make the highest quality production possible, both technically and narratively.
