The LILA Sensor is perfect for checking if your doors and windows are closed. And when used with LILA Connect you can also be alerted if something is opened when you are out and about.
Just open up the LILA app and you’ll be able to check on all your LILA Sensors from your phone. LILA will also alert you if you leave the house without closing a door or window.
You can even set time triggered alerts, so for example you could receive an alert if the Freezer door was left open for more than a few minutes.
LILA Sensors are supplied with self-adhesive strips, so no drilling or screwing required.
As a result of backer feedback we've also now made the LILA Sensor weatherproof as standard.
LILA Sensors can also report the current temperature, and be set to notify you of significant temperature changes. You can also use them solely as a temperature sensor - just stick one to the side of the house and check the outside temperature before you get out of bed. You can even be notified if the outside temperature drops below freezing so you can allow extra time to de-ice the car.
Each LILA Sensor uses Bluetooth Low Energy to communicate. This gives a typical battery life of over 1 year for each Sensor using a CR2032 coin cell. The LILA App will alert you when the battery is getting low so you can simply replace it.
The LILA Phonic brings audible alerts to the LILA System. Whether you just want a simple alarm siren, or something a bit different, the LILA Phonic can deliver! And with multiple LILA Phonics' you can even customise where sounds are played from depending on the point of intrusion, allowing you to create the illusion someone is at home.
When you're at home you can set the LILA Phonic to play a soft notification chime when certain LILA Sensors are triggered.
In addition to the audible functionality there are also two built in motion detectors, allowing the LILA Phonic to act as a standalone security system if required.
You can mount it anywhere. Even upside down, or in a corner thanks to it's triangular shape. If you do choose to mount it upside down then the circular logo on the front can be rotated to keep things looking just right.
And lets not forget the lighting... that's right this baby glows! You can set the LILA Phonic to glow when it detects movement (turning it into the perfect nightlight), or you could turn it on permanently for some funky mood lighting. You can even set it to turn on automatically at set times while you're away. The lighting colour can be set straight from the LILA App.
Oh, just one more thing. When you're not using the LILA Phonic for security it doubles up as a Bluetooth speaker (with two high quality Tang Band drivers) allowing you to stream music straight from your phone. It also has a 3.5mm jack input so you can play music from non-Bluetooth devices such as an iPod.
The LILA Juice is designed to solve the ultimate first-world problem: Did I leave the hair straighteners switched on? With the LILA Juice featuring two Smart sockets which can be monitored and controlled straight from the LILA App, you'll never need to ask yourself this question again.
The LILA Juice Smart sockets give you complete control:
- Turn devices on or off straight from your phone.
- Get alerted if you leave something switched on for too long.
- Get alerted if something is still switched on when you leave home.
- Automatically turn devices on/off at set times.

Mesh Network for unlimited range
Now you may be thinking ‘well that’s no good, I live in a mansion and Bluetooth won’t reach from one side to the other’, well it doesn’t need to! As long as each LILA Device is within range of another, they will daisy chain the connection, giving you live information from all over your home.
LILA communication is secured using AES128 encryption to stop unauthorised use. The encryption key is sent only once (during the initial setup) it can't be 'sniffed' out of the air during usage. In addition to this each packet is tagged so it cannot simply be captured and re-transmitted from an unauthorised device.
There’s a world full of creative people out there and we want to give everybody the chance to get creative with LILA.
Want to keep track of your pets movements? No problem, just stick a LILA Sensor to you cat or dog door.
Someone keeps leaving the freezer open? Want to be alerted to midnight snackers? Just stick a LILA Sensor to your fridge/freezer.

Utilize the power of IFTTT
During the previous campaign we were overwhelmed by requests for IFTTT (If this then that) integration and we have been working hard to achieve this. In the short term we have managed to successfully trigger IFTTT events using #tagged emails sent straight from LILA Connect and it's working fantastically. In the long term we will be pushing to bring an official LILA Channel, however we cannot do this until LILA is in production.
Tasker for Android
Another request that kept cropping up was Tasker support for Android. Well we didn't want to disappoint so we've been spending time trialing and testing, and we're happy to report that it's all go go go.
Open for Developers
We believe in the power of numbers, so we’ll be releasing an SDK so developers can make their own applications, integrate into existing systems, build a school/college project, or just about anything that comes to mind really.
The SDK will allow you to communicate with the LILA either directly using Bluetooth Low Energy, or over WiFi/Ethernet using the JSON API built into the LILA Connect. Example source code will provided for a variety of popular languages.
Meet the team
Progress so far
After the initial idea for LILA we needed to prove we could make it work. The first step was to find the right method to distinguish between an open and closed state. After ruling out various methods (such as IR beams) due to their power consumption, we finally decided a magnetic sensor would be the most efficient route.
Next it was time to purchase a variety of Hall effect sensors and magnets to trial. Once these arrived we were able to modify a circuit board from one of our existing products, to test the power consumption and response time of each before making a decision.
Using our modified board we were then able to get to work on our custom firmware which allows the sensors to communicate. This took some considerable thought, as reducing power consumption without sacrificing functionality posed a real challenge.
At this stage we were able to put together our first generation of the LILA app for iOS and prove basic level functionality to build on. Next came the Android app testing which consisted of the initial Bluetooth Smart service, and a very rough UI to prove functionality.
For the LILA Connect we were again able to prototype by performing heavy surgery on some boards we already had available. The biggest challenge faced in the Connect prototype was how to allow configuration of the WiFi. Initial thoughts revolved around the ability to connect a USB keyboard to the Hub for configuration, luckily we scrapped this idea and moved to the much more sensible option of being able to enter settings through the LILA phone app over a Bluetooth Smart connection.
Since our first campaign we've been hard at work on the LILA Sensors, and now have what we hope to be the final PCB design. We have also re-designed the plastic housing to add a weatherproof gasket.
The LILA Connect (formally the LILA Hub) has now been reduced in size, and multi region plug adapters have been sourced for UK, EU & US regions.
The LILA Phonic is a new addition, and while we wanted to keep the LILA Sensors discreet, the LILA Phonic was designed to be shown off, and it certainly had the most attention paid to it's aesthetics. The LILA Phonic actually started life as two separate products - the speaker/alarm sound unit, and the motion detection/lighting unit. After numerous discussions, and concept designs we eventually backtracked and decided to create an all-in one unit which is what you see here on Kickstarter.
The shape of the LILA Phonic allows it to mount almost anywhere. It can be simply placed on a table/mantelpiece, or turn it over and it can be wall mounted, or even corner mounted.
The brains of the LILA Phonic are very similar to the LILA Connect with the addition of an audio amplifier and some LED lighting. This enabled us to put together a prototype very quickly. Although we still have a little way to go with the final board designs it's all coming together very nicely so far.
Our other new product the LILA Juice was something we already had happening in the background. Using the same CSR1010 as the LILA Sensor we are able to switch relays at will, allowing us to give you control of your electrical devices. The LILA Juice was originally designed to have 4 smart sockets, however after revealing the sneak peek to our previous backers it was clear that there was not a huge demand to control 4 devices in one location. With this in mind we removed 2 of the smart sockets and replaced them with simple pass-through sockets. This decision also enabled us to reduce the cost as the relays and energy monitoring IC's are relatively expensive components.
We have also managed to keep the cost of plastic tooling down for the LILA Juice by using a socket design which caters for the majority of plug types. This has the added bonus of of allowing the use of imported electrical items without the need for an extra adapter.
Now that the core functionality of LILA has been tested with working samples, the next steps for us are:
Finalize the Firmware for all the LILA Devices.
Improve user interface for iOS app.
Improve user interface for Android app, and test as many devices as possible.
Complete Tasker support for Android app.
Build Windows Phone app (on release of Windows Phone 8.1 SDK).
Get LILA Devices through CE, FCC, IC and Bluetooth certification.
Take the LILA Devices into manufacturing.
Prepare the integration SDK for developers.
Push for LILA IFTTT Channel.
Ensure a great user experience.

Terms and conditions for LILA referrals
- You must be a current backer (obvious really).
- If a referred backer cancels their pledge then you won't get a refund.
- If a referred backer's payment fails at the end of the campaign (card declined etc) you won't get a refund.
Risks and challenges
Testing: Getting a product tested and certified for CE, FCC, IC and Bluetooth is an expensive process and this is what the majority of funds will go towards. We have an expert team of hardware & software engineers to see us through this process, but it usually throws up a surprise or two, just to challenge us!
Manufacturing: From experience we have learnt that it can take time to get injection moulded plastic parts just right, so one of our key challenges will be to make this process as swift as possible to avoid any delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
