Young Explorer's Adventure Guide Volume Five: SF Anthology
The fifth volume of the Young Explorer's Adventure Guide, bringing science fiction to young readers everywhere!
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Thu, October 25 2018 2:30 AM UTC +00:00.
We've had some great reviews for the Young Explorer's Adventure Guide series!
Worlds await young readers….
This anthology offers new, vividly futuristic adventures featuring diverse characters, including humans from all over Earth as well as ET kids from other planets. One of the qualities that makes this yearly anthology such a treat to read is the wide range of futuristic possibilities that planet Earth and its occupants may encounter, realities that will keep readers wondering long after the book is closed. A few stories present poignant discourse about Earth’s sustainability, mixing neatly with adventures that give kids agency to navigate and ponder their own realities in different worlds.
This stellar collection will appeal to both teens and grown-ups who dream of future worlds.

Help fund the fifth year of the Young Explorer's Adventure Guide anthology - 24 amazing science fiction stories for girls, boys and robots of all ages.
Here's what parents, kids and reviewers have said about previous collections:
"There are not very many action, adventure, superhero, or sci-fi stories that feature girls, but there needs to be. I have read this whole book and now I have become even more interested in space and robots and things like that." ~ Lily F. (10 years old)
“I backed the book for my 6-year-old daughter. I had to pry it out of her hands to get her to go to bed. She has declared it her favorite book.” ~ Gary D.
“My daughter is on the couch presently, reading her copy, which I handed to her approximately 3 minutes ago. She is engrossed. Thank you.” ~ Matthew M.
“Entertaining, varied and enrapturing - my young wards for the weekend have positively devoured the book and I'll admit enjoying it myself once they very reluctantly set it down.” ~ Andro B.
"While I was funding you last night, my 8-yr old daughter came by and asked what I was doing. When I explained that I was funding the second volume of this, she said that she liked the first volume so much that she wanted to give you $5 of her own money, so she went and got her bank, and I upped my donation by $5. :-)" ~ Warren B.
"I highly recommend this collection. I love the variety of young voices it contains. From kids making first contact to piloting starships, the range of adventure is fantastic." ~ West Coast Book Reviews
Let's do it again!
Want more details on why we do this?
“When I was a child, the school library had a Girls’ Section, which included fairy tales, and a Boys’ Section, which included all the science fiction. Things have changed, of course, but not enough. There is a strong need for science fiction, as opposed to fantasy, aimed at girls, especially in the middle grades. This anthology is an important contribution to the effort to fill that need, and I’m delighted to be a part of it.”~ Nancy Kress, winner of six Nebulas, two Hugos, a Sturgeon, and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award
We’ve got another great collection of 24 stories from amazing authors. Our characters are white, black, asian, latino. Human and robot. Everyone belongs here.
Help us make the fifth collection of the Young Explorer's Adventure Guide a reality.
For every $50 raised above our goal, we'll add another book to the stack of books we make available to schools and libraries at no cost!
All of our authors are paid professional rates for their work, because we feel it’s the right thing to do. And just like last year, school and public libraries will be able to request sponsored copies, free of charge.
Which means the upfront costs are a little high, especially for a tiny indie press. But we believe the anthology has a small but important part to play in the battle for equality (and good fiction) and that it’s a worthwhile challenge.
Consider backing the project, in either ebook or paperback, or sponsoring a donated copy, and spread the message to your networks. The more books go out, the more kids we reach, the brighter the dream of tomorrow.
Risks and challenges
All stories have been selected and edited, and authors have been paid, as has the cover artist. We're working on layout now, getting it ready for review copies. This is the fourth year of the anthology. Despite occasional hiccups, every project has shipped on time. We've built in a lot of padding to make sure we'll ship this on time as well!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
