Most of you donating to this game will have been to the event before or will have heard friends talk about it. TLDR: Support one of the largest foam fighting medieval combat events in the country - We need your help to improve our amazing gaming event!
Battle for the Ring is one of the largest battle game events in the country with robust national attendance and projected participation of nearly 500 fighters for 2014. If this is the first time you are hearing about it, now is a great time to come to sunny Southern California in January to experience a medieval fighting event that is an amazing experience.
Every year we have done our best to make the event larger and the community has done what it can to make the event bigger by getting the word out and rallying the troops. This event is a 3-day medieval camping, gaming, and martial arts activity that the whole family can enjoy. We have a small group of vendors, day and night activities including: simulated medieval combat for participants over 14 with guardian permission, tournaments, games, themed battles, costume parades, night-time board and card games room, free food, campfire fun, music, art, and dancing. We do our best to promote medieval culture and the sport of foam sword fighting throughout the event. We welcome Dagorhir, Belegarth, and Amtgard participation, and have been pioneers in both promoting and encouraging cross-gaming in our region.
But we need your help! The event has been primarily funded through a very small number of community people and we need additional funds to cover the increases in camping fees as well as other resources for the ever growing attendance. Please donate today and come to the event. You have our gratitude and the appreciation of an entire community of medieval enthusiasts.
These Stretch Goals are for things we've dreamed of giving you in years past, but couldn't afford on pre-reg prices alone... so only donations beyond the $30 pre-reg price will go towards these goals. If you pledge $33 for the pre-reg package, $3 goes towards stretch goals; if you pledge the $55 pre-reg & Sword pack, $25 goes towards stretch goals. If everyone pitches in and donates a few extra dollars, together we can accomplish great things, allowing us to bring you truly unique Medieval experiences!
Catered Feast unlocked! We've already got some ideas on who we'll be getting to cater, it's going to be amazing :)
Steam Room Unlocked! We're currently investigating whether it makes more sense to buy or to build a huge tent to use as a steamroom, and we think we can make it something truly unique and awesome.
Castle - If we make it to the Castle goal, we'll put together the best castle we can afford, with an eye towards combat utility, thematic awesomeness, and portability. Other groups in the area will be able to borrow the castle for their own events, for a very small maintenance fee to help us cover storage costs and repairs. We'll also lend out other event gear such as our cones, signs, lights, sashes, etc.
Mystery Prize - If we start to approach the Castle, we'll start taking suggestions from the community on what you'd like the final Prize to be, and figure out where we'll have to set the final Goal to afford it. If we make it this far, we want something truly epic and memorable - something we're not smart enough to come up with on our own! Start dreaming and dream big, and pitch in to make your dreams come true!
Risks and challenges
We have put on this event for several years and know the event will continue this year. Our greatest risk is that the event is being paid for out of pocket by the organizers, so it does not have a running fund to ensure that it will continue far into the future . We want to start having funds for the event so that it can be run indefinitely, just as it is for other Belegarth events, such as Chaos Wars. Your funding will go a long way to helping us now and hopefully also in the future, so that BftR continues for many future participants.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
