Hi. This is Matt Pryor. Many of you will know me from my band The Get Up Kids, and you may also be aware of some of my other musical projects like the New Amsterdams and the Terrible Twos. I’ll bet some of you have also been out to see the “Where’s the Band?” tour I love doing every year. Chances are, if you have come up to the merch stand after a show I’ve signed a CD, had a photo taken with you, or at least shaken your hand. It’s always a fun part of every tour meeting all the people who are fans and make it possible for me to play music every day.
Along with The Get Up Kids and the New Ams I also released a solo album, ‘Confidence Man’ back in ‘08. Which brings me to the subject of this Kickstarter campaign. I’ve been tinkering with ideas for about 15 acoustic songs between tours over the last year and it looks ready to become an actual ‘album’ – my second solo record. I decided to call the record 'May Day' - basically as I’m giving myself the month of May to wrap up the writing and put it to tape. I’m really excited to get started on everything to get 'May Day' finished and released. And here’s where you, my friends, come in.
My plan is to release 'May Day' independently, so I’m looking to raise enough money to get it off the ground and promote it properly. And I think I can do it with your help! I’ve thought about it a lot, and have put together what I hope is a good collection of incentives to earn your support. Not the least of which is an entirely unreleased album titled 'Still, There’s A Light' that’s only going to be available to Kickstarter contributors. That’s right, it’s only going to be available here.
But everyone who participates in this campaign will become a member of our team. I’d like you to be involved in the process of making this record, and I’ll keep you in-the-loop with everything as we are recording and releasing 'May Day'. If you contribute you’ll be part of a special club, who get to hear the songs as they are written and have a say in the final artwork. You can own a piece of it from an exclusive poster to the test pressings to the guitars that I play on the album. I’ll even come sing in your bedroom!
I’ve been really lucky to have a lot of support from fans over the years. I deeply appreciate everyone who has listened to my music, come see me perform or let me crash on their floors. So I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to have you contribute to making 'May Day' a reality, and share in its creation every step along the way. I’m hoping that all you, my extremely supportive friends and fans, can chip in and make this album happen.
