My name is Lena Bloch, I am a jazz musician and composer, one of the few female Russian saxophonists in New York... Maybe the only one?..

After immigrating to Israel in 1990 and brief study with Boris Gammer at the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem, moved to Europe and was accepted after the competition at the Cologne Conservatory, Germany. There I studied with and played with John Marshall, Keith Copeland, Steve Reid, Mal Waldron. My quartet with Boris Netsvetaev (piano), Phil Steen (bass) and Wolff Reichert (drums) was a winner at the Leipziger Jazz Newcomer Festival 2000.

Moving to NYC in 2008 was quite a change in my musical activities, here I finally met in person and played with some of former Lennie Tristano's and Sal Mosca's students, like Charles Sibirsky, Connie Crothers, Ted Brown, Bob Arthurs, Joe Solomon. I also had really great moments, which I am very grateful for, playing with Dan Tepfer, Michael Kanan, Sumi Tonooka, Kim Clarke, Evgeny Sivtsov, Putter Smith, Antonio Ciacca, Dan Loomis, Stefan Bauer, Ron Itzik,, Billy Mintz, Mark Ferber...

This is my debut CD to be published, and the very first one in the United States. Although I have been playing for over 20 years and have been on stage since the age of 3 (Russian ballet...), I never felt as ready and as fortunate as NOW to lead a quartet of truly outstanding musicians for this recording opportunity as I feel ready and fortunate today.

Dave Miller on guitar: http://davemillerguitar.wordpress.com/about/, Cameron Brown on bass: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameron_Brown_%28musician%29 Billy Mintz on drums http://www.billymintz.com/bio.html. These three musicians of different generations and backgrounds have a lot in common: the open-mindeness, poetic musicality, unbelievable ears, inventiveness and affinity for true improvising and communication.

Since 2001 I have been closely studying with Lee Konitz, who has indeed transformed my perception of music and my playing. I would like to dedicate this album to him and his friend Warne Marsh, playing some of their music and striving for making this recording a truly improvised one. "Improviso" is translated as "Unforeseen", now how about an "Unforeheard"?..

The material will be original, at times freely improvised, written music merging into un-ever-written. The communication with these musicians often borders on miracle. They have a very special perception of musical time and are outstanding composers.

Because of our unique mixture of cultural backgrounds and experiences, I expect this album to sound unique and interesting.

I am setting the fundraising goal at $2,000.00 which will cover the cost of the studio, mixing and mastering. Hopefully, if we raise more, I will be able to make a great album cover as well.

WITH YOUR SUPPORT, WE CAN MAKE GREAT MUSIC HAPPEN!!!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!!!
