Butler Watch Company Introduction
Wrist watches are a natural extension of aviation and are a necessary tool in the field. Butler Watch Company was founded by a professional pilot with 25 years Aviation experience. BWC enjoys a 4 year track record of selling great products and providing personal customer service. We also offer a useful time iPhone app called Time Flies, which is one of our rewards.
Limited Edition OOOI
The new watch model for the Butler Professional Series collection is a Limited Edition analog/digital watch called, “OOOI.” The OOOI watch uses an ETA 988.333 movement that displays time in both analog form, using hands, and in LCD digital display with multi-functions. This is a retro watch with modern design. The movement inside this watch was very popular with another watch company that begins with "B"...think Aerospace.
OOOI model has finished the design and component prototype phase. Components manufacturing is complete. We expect to ship OOOI model watches during September 2017.
What does OOOI stand for?
Unless you are involved in aviation, you probably are unaware of OOOI. OOOI is an esoteric acronym meaning Out Off ON IN. All pilots record OOOI times for a flight segment; aircraft OUT of the gate, wheels OFF the runway into the air, wheels ON the runway, and aircraft IN the gate.

Kickstarter Backers Only
This watch is not yet available for pre-order on our website. Kickstarter backers will have the first opportunity to purchase the watch. There are only 99 watches available. The first 80 serial numbers are available on Kickstarter with a custom case-back decoration and engraving, including a numbering scheme of 1/99, 2/99, 3/99, and so on.
Case Back for OOOI Watch Backers
We will create unique case backs for OOOI watches. Kickstarter backers will receive the limited edition case back with a numbered watch and each backer can specify engraving options for name.
The Case Back shown above is a rendering. The actual case back is engraved stainless steel and does not have the black contrast shown above. Go to our Butler Watch Company website, Facebook, or Instagram pages to see what photos of the actual case back look like of our other watches.
This model began as the original model for our company, but was shelved due to cost of production. The OOOI has a consistent and pleasing aesthetic that matches our Professional Series GMT and J80 watches.
Movement: ETA 988.333 Analog/Digital movement.
The analog display uses an hour and minute hand. The digital display is represented with two LCD digital windows. The top window displays function mode, such as Chrono, and Alarm. The bottom window displays the corresponding numerical read out.
NOTE: Potential backers, please review the following two links to a watch with the exact same movement as in our OOOI watch, the ETA 988.333. Watching these videos will help backers understand the functions, features, and limitations of our new watch.
NOTE: This ETA movement has no backlighting in the LCD display. The display requires ambient light for viewing. With good ambient light available, the display reads easily. In low lighting, the LCD display is more difficult to read.
Case: 40mm Outside Diameter Brushed stainless steel case. 20mm lug width between case lugs.
Crown: The crown is used to manipulate the functions of the watch and has our logo embossed.
Crystal: Domed sapphire crystal. The sapphire crystal is an essential design element, due to its scratch resistance. Sapphire is the hardest substance next to a diamond. The domed shape helps to reduce light reflections vs. flat crystals.
Dial: OOOI dial with black face and white numbers and indexes for purity of display.
OOOI watch dial uses BGW9 SuperLuminovaTM luminescent numbers and indices. BGW9 displays as the most pure of whites in non-luminous environment, consistent with our design philosophy. In our opinion, it adds a pleasing and unusual aesthetic when glowing a shade of light sky-blue in dark settings. BGW9 is chosen over the more commonly used "green" hue from C3 SuperLuminovaTM. We marginally sacrifice glowing capability, but believe the pure white is the right choice.
Part of the analog function of this watch is to assist keeping track of the 24 hour time method. We use a subtle analog display of 13-24 numbering on the dial ring. Displaying "military time" adds to the utility of the watch.
Hands: The watch hands are coated with SuperLuminovaTM. The skeleton hands (hollow middle) were developed from shape and dimension consistent with our Professional Series watches. We added see-through styling, rather than a filled hand, which allows the eye to catch a little more of the LCD display when a hand is over it.
Stainless steel bracelet & Leather straps: We now have an option for brushed stainless steel bracelet on our watches
Oil tanned aniline leather strap, made in the USA is the standard issue. Black or Brown strap with white contrast stitching are choices. Our logo is stamped on the inside of the strap. The width of the buckle is the same as at the lugs, 20mm. We use these straps because of their beauty, robust construction, and perfect buckle. All of which compliment our watch case styling.
Display by means of hands:
- Hours, minutes.
- Hours, minutes, seconds.
- Second, date, perpetual calendar.
- Day in english, french, german, spanish and date.
- Timer: hours, minutes, seconds.
- Hours, minutes and seconds of another time zone.
- Chronograph: hours, minutes, seconds, 1/100 second.
- Functions ADD or SPLIT.
- Alarm (hours and minutes alarm).
- END OF LIFE indicated by blinking numerical display.
In addition to our watches, we also created something unique, tech oriented, and unexpected from a watch company. We have an iPhone app called , appropriately enough, Time Flies.
You can test drive our GMT and J80 watches using Time Flies. The app is functional and useful for everyone, including watch enthusiasts, pilots, and travelers. Time Flies shows time, GMT, and Weather at airports around the world. What time is it at your favorite airport city? Find out with Time Flies on the App Store.
In addition to backing us on KickStarter, download Time Flies on the App Store and purchase premium service. Premium service gives detailed weather at airports and at your current location. Weather includes Aviation METAR/TAF. Premium helps fund continued app servicing.
Time Flies Back Story: Our app was produced in the USA by collaborating with a young, talented programmer named Matthew Mooneyham. Incidentally, Matthew is also a pilot, son of a pilot, and grandson of another pilot. This is a wonderful USA success story because Matthew built and services the app while simultaneously attending college and holding down a job. Who says the new generation has no work ethic?

Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges of this project have mostly been overcome. We have delayed this project because of our desire to ensure this watch would be ready for shipping in a timely manner. We absorbed the delay on the front end so backers wouldn't have to wait a long period for their watches. Our only challenge now is to engrave and ship. Our packaging products are already designed and ready for production.
Another challenge we faced was to use this particular ETA movement. It was very difficult to procure.
In today's world, people are accustomed to backlit screens everywhere. The limitation of this watch is the LCD display. We encourage potential backers to watch the reviews in the Project Description above in order to better understand the functions and limitations of this watch.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
