Ham. Sandwich. Literature.
The Hamthology is an anthology of stories, poems, and other creative works all related to the theme of ham sandwiches. The Hamthology will be published as paperback and eBook by tdotSpec Inc..
Some people thought this idea was too crazy to be done. But the doubters weren't about to stand in the way of our editors! We had a dream of an anthology of ham sandwich literature, and we were committed.
Editing for The Hamthology has been a blast. The quality and quantity of submissions far exceeded our expectations. Something about the silliness of the premise unleashed the creativity of the internet. The result was writing that felt fresh and free. Our editorial team got together over the months to "ham it up", sitting down with a bottle of whisky and a pile of stories to share the gems with each other, and enjoy the works of our fellow writers, all of whose submissions we greatly appreciated.
To whet your appetite, here is some surreal ham sandwich art by the Swedish artist Janne Karlsson:
We are in the final stretches of putting this thing together. We have some great stories and poems, and other creative works. We've got comedy, horror, mystery. We've got science fiction, fantasy, romance, erotica - all with ham sandwiches. We've got honey-I-shrunk-the-kids meets a ham sandwich. We've got post-apocalyptic dystopia meets ham sandwich.
Now we need the heroes of the internet to help bring us through the final stages of this awesome project - mostly to pay the authors. Help us bring The Hamthology to life! This is the one and only place on Earth to get your fill of ham sandwich literature! Where else are you going to find something like this? Nowhere, that's where! So let's do it together! Are you with me?
Ham! Sandwich! Literature!

Risks and challenges
Putting together an anthology is a lot of work - we know from experience. The good news is, a lot of the work on The Hamthology is already done. We ran an open call for submissions back in February 2018, we've completed almost all of our selections, and we've gotten contracts from over thirty writers already. We still need to raise money to pay our authors and illustrators - that's what the Kickstarter is mainly for.
The next major production stages are structural edits, copy edits, formatting and design, and final proofing. Because these stages involve communicating with all of the creators, and organizing meetings with the editors, it can lead to delays. That's the biggest challenge. Outsourcing design can also lead to delays. That's why, for this project, we are doing all of our design in-house - to give us better control of the end-product and the timeline.
