crowdfundinsider.com - It took me about 5 seconds to want one of these stands
design-milk.com - A Minimalist Stand Matching The iPad's Elegance
WHAT MAKES YOHANN UNIQUE?
- 6 POSITIONS - YOHANN presents the iPad in six different positions (three angles in landscape and three in portrait view) and enhances comfort and usability.
- SOFT SURFACES - YOHANN is stable on soft surfaces like your bed, couch, lawn or on your lap.
EASY TO USE - As a one-piece construction YOHANN is very easy to use.
REDUCED - YOHANN ‘steps back’ behind the iPad to allow you to see its entire design. YOHANN is designed to be as thin and elegant as possible.
MADE IN EUROPE
- SUSTAINABILITY - All production steps for YOHANN are made by manufacturers nearby in Germany and Italy. This way we support small regional businesses and minimize environmental impact.
The iPad’s minimalist design is great for mobility, but it can be difficult to use comfortably when you are in fixed locations for longer periods. The majority of the time we use our iPads at home or in the office where we find ourselves using the iPad in a variety of situations and positions. Regardless of the situation, we want to be able to use the iPad comfortably and in an easy way.
YOHANN is the perfect complement for your iPad and provides multiple options for how you want to position the product according to what you are doing around the house or in the office. YOHANN is lightweight and goes wherever you go. Use it anywhere and if you choose to leave it behind, YOHANN remains as a beautiful object on your desk or your nightstand.
The majority of existing stands for the iPad are either functional or have some aesthetic appeal, but rarely do they provide both.
1. Some stands offer the potential for many different angles, but they often have a very technical appearance that is not complementary to the iPad’s design and are often of lesser quality.
2. Others provide a minimalist design but lack the necessary functionality needed to be really helpful.
Without question, the iPad is a beautiful invention. Therefore, we value accessories that do not disturb the iPad’s aesthetics but enhance its overall design and use. Today’s existing stands lack the necessary combination of functionality AND minimalist design.
ONE PIECE - Most functional products that provide multiple viewing angels for the iPad require different moving parts to work. In order to achieve a simple, durable and highly functional product we designed YOHANN as a one-piece product that moves with the iPad and is supported by three different footprints on the bottom. The exact position of these footprints, and the entire shape of YOHANN for that matter, is based upon a structural calculation that allows YOHANN - together with the iPad – to be stable and comfortable for the user in all of the supported landscape and portraitview points.
THE SHAPE - The general shape and the position of the footprints are the result of a structural calculation to provide the highest stability. We cycle tested numerous variations and prototypes of YOHANN before arriving at our final design. In addition, we tested with people of all ages and backgrounds until we arrived at the most stable and reliable product possible.
SLIM - The shape has been reduced to the absolute minimum in order to create a light and thin device.
CABLE - An embedded hole at the bottom allow the charging cable to be connected to the iPad when operated in the vertical position.
SOUND - YOHANN’s additionally embedded holes correspond with the location of the iPad’s speakers to provide clear and unobstructed sound quality (for iPad Air, iPad mini).
YOHANN is specially calculated and designed for Apple iPads. It does not work with other tablets due to their various sizes, shapes and weights.
A unique combination of a glassfiber-reinforced polymer body covered with a high-end piano lacquer finishing allows us to create YOHANN in the thinnest, strongest and most elegant manner.
PRODUCTION - YOHANN Lacquer will be produced in Germany by a manufacturer who specializes in the production of high quality parts for Mercedes Benz, Audi and Porsche.
ADDITIONAL COLOR - As we reached the stretched goal of $100'000 all backers with rewards for YOHANN Lacquer will be able to choose from an additional color especially elected by and made for our supporters. Kickstarters made an excellent choice:
TYPES - Gentle exchangeable back rests keeps the iPad always in the right place and allows YOHANN to support iPad 2,3,4 and iPad Air. They are included with every YOHANN Lacquer.
Wood is a fantastic material for our product. It has ideal characteristics for stability and weight and its beautiful grain provides a great natural touch when it’s in your hand.
WOOD TYPES - Because it is a naturally grown material each product is unique and has its own beautiful characteristics and tones. You can choose between four beautiful regional wood types.
TYPES - We will produce three different geometries made specifically for either iPad 2/3/4, iPad Air or iPad mini.
PRODUCTION - We have to involve three small businesses to get the wooden products done:
- The blanks will be milled in the Italian Alps, close to Switzerland. It takes about 10 hours to get the product milled.
- Sanding and polishing will be done by traditional wood manufacturer based in the black forrest in Germany.
- The finishing oiling and waxing will be made by a workshop for disabled people also based in the black forrest.
It takes 10 hours to precisely mill YOHANN from a single piece of wood. Then, YOHANN is carefully sanded, polished, oiled and waxed by hand.
It is important to us to offer a sustainable production process:
MADE IN EUROPE - YOHANN is entirely produced by small businesses in our region. This way we support our local economy and you benefit from the region's high quality standards.
WORKING CONDITIONS - we personally visit and know well all companies involved in the manufacturing and development of the product and we are in close collaboration with them. We care about being able to provide a product that is produced under conditions we know and we can stand for.
MATERIALS - We only use regional and sustainably grown wood types. The Lacquer product consists of two types of thermoplastic polymer that are easily recyclable.
The development of design, prototypes and production process took us some time and now we are prepared to kick off production. The tooling of the molds and the first production are high costs that need to be payed now to bring Yohann to reality. This is where we need your help.
As we are very close to get production started as soon as we meet our goal we will commission the manufacturer to finish the moldings and setup everything to start production soon.
DELIVERY - First batches of Yohann will be ready to be shipped in October. Depending on the time you pledge it can also be November.
Shipping is free and included for any destination in the world!
For backers in the US, EU and Switzerland we clarified as far as it was possible, that there will be no additional charges at customs. For any unforeseen charges backers will be responsible.
Various patents for utility and design are pending in Europe, China and the US and also on international level.
Apple and iPad are Trademarks of Apple Inc.
Risks and challenges
The real risks and challenges we face don't lie in completing this project, but in the problems that we'll face without it.
If we raise our minimum funding goal, we do not anticipate ANY significant challenges or risks in completing the project. The products are well tested, manufacturing processes are also profoundly tested and optimized to provide precisely crafted and liable products.
As with all Kickstarter projects, there is always a risk of delay in delivering some of the rewards due to unforeseen problems on the way, but we've been careful to give ourselves enough time than we think we'll need – so we hope we'll have some of the rewards out even sooner than listed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
