What it is
This is the story of the delightfully weird, wonderful - and sometimes incredible - life of Ignot Marrion Whimmle III. We follow him as he discovers for himself a world we thought we knew. A short(ish) story by writer Pieter Ignatius Rossouw, brought to life through the beautiful pencil & ink illustrations of his wife Aldie Pretorius.
The physical published piece itself will be as much a part of the story as the art and the words. That is why, with your help, we would like to create a very limited first edition of 100 hardback books!
UPDATE: Every book pledge will also come with a FREE eBook! So now you can enjoy that new book smell and also have it close at hand to read any time on your digital devices!
About the books
These 100 books will feature the kind of tactile detail and craft that would simply not be feasible for a mass publication. We want each book to feel like a unique, handcrafted field note diary, discovered in the dustiest corner of your granny’s long-forgotten attic.
It will feature a hand-distressed scarlet bok cloth hardcover with gold foil and debossed detailing and lovely vintage-feel matte pages. Every book will also be numbered (1 to 100), signed and presented in a hand stitched, 50% cotton printed envelope, complete with a ‘W’ stamped wax seal on the back. A true collector’s edition made with real love!
Money pledged towards this project will go into printing the books. As this is a labour of love, we’ve already spent our free time writing, illustrating, editing and designing everything. We have a printer quote, final artwork and finalised schedule ready to go. Successful funding is the last step! (wink wink, nudge nudge)...
So please help us make Whimmle a reality!
Our selection of pledge tiers allow you to commit to something as minor as donating a few quid if you appreciate our idea, or something as major as owning one of the actual original signed pencil & ink artworks. You can check out all the artworks on our Facebook page and contact us to reserve your favourite when you pledge.
First come first served!
UPDATE: A Sneak Peek!
So you've seen the artwork, but until now you haven't read any of the story yet. Well, we're giving you a sneak peek: Whimmle is born!
Risks and challenges
Pretty much none. We’ve already had a perfect dummy printed (you can see it in the video), so all the plates have been made, the kinks have been worked out and our book printers are ready to start the 100 copies as soon as it’s funded.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
