About this project
Click here for an EXCITING NEW STRETCH GOAL! Help us reach $40,000 by 11:59pm and we will go on a special paranormal investigation at the prison where Shawshank Redemption was filmed! Please donate AND help us spread the word... ONLY HOURS LEFT! Together we can do this!!! (The $35,000 is locked in - just trying to reach stretch goal too.)
Queer Ghost Hunters is a docuseries on the web right now following the first group in the world that is contacting LGBTQ ghosts. You might think this is fascinating. You might think it's funny. You are all welcome here! As we do our real investigations with a queer eye we don't miss the chance to parody ghost hunting shows too.
But never mind the ghost part of all this. Here's why we need your support. We are discovering so MANY lost LGBT lives from the past through objective research before investigations. Records of people who were imprisoned or institutionalized for "deviant" behavior are turning up a lot in our work. Sad stories to be told but also hopeful ones from centuries ago. Our web series takes that info and lets people explore it in a way that gets them interested in LGBT history: paranormal investigating.
And if you do happen to believe in the paranormal, we show conversations with entities who claim they were men who loved men or women who loved women. This aint your dad's ghost hunting show!
Season 1 was funding and created by queer documentary filmmaker Stu Maddux (Gen Silent, Reel In The Closet)
But season 2 depends on this Kickstarter reaching its goal so he/we can continue.
You can watch the first three episodes now on our YouTube Channel.
The national coverage has been extensive and included positive reviews from, NBC, Mashable, The Advocate and more than a dozen national outlets. But none of this momentum typically creates magic crowd of people willing to go to the next step: to donate. That's a myth.
It's fascinating and funny; BUT no matter what you believe, the Queer Ghost Hunters are discovering hidden LGBT history in their research of records.
"We had no idea how much this idea would resonate with people until comments started pouring in," says QGH creator Stu Maddux
"I’m 16yrs old and I am a bi/pansexual transboy! I have loved paranormal and supernatural related things since I was very young, however being handicapped (that was the word they used to describe it) I can’t exactly go out and investigate for them myself. Your show will provide so much for me to connect to, and so much that will help me feel more involved in the paranormal and maybe even the LGBTQ community!!"
Queer Ghost Hunter and self-described member of the Bear community, Scott Priddy:
So now this cute and crazy web series is sparking a movement to connect people with queer history through- who knew- queer ghost hunting?! We don't want to miss the opportunity.
We are asking those rare people who really understand the power of what we are doing to support us. If you've read this far- that's you!
Shooting season 2 and getting out into the world will cost a minimum of the $35,000 we are asking for.
Should we be so lucky to reach our stretch goal of $42,000 we will be able to give each Queer Ghost Hunter a small video camera so we no longer miss a single contact made when we break into small groups.
And should we reach are second stretch goal of $50,000 we will be able to begin digging up hidden history of lost LGBT lives in other parts of the country. Maybe you know of a place we should investigate?
If ever there was a chance to support something still undiscovered;
something saving LGBT history in a new way- This is it!
Be a Queer Ghost Hunter!
