A Huge-sized pewter Dragon Frog gaming model.
A Huge-sized pewter Dragon Frog gaming model.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Wed, October 16 2019 12:30 AM UTC +00:00.
The Dragon Frog project has reached its funding goal, and we are now working on unlocking Stretch Goals, which will bring added value --and FREE MINIS-- to all our backers! We have unlocked our first, second, third and fourth Stretch Goals --the terrifyingly cute Monstrous Polliwog "Skippy", the Frogoid PoisonSkin Thug, the very bitey Monstrous Polliwog "Penelope, and the stabby stabby Frogoid Spearman "Barney"!
The Dragon-Frog Vengathari
-- A Huge Pewter Gaming Miniature
This kickstarter hopes to raise funds to produce production molds to make the awesome Vengathari Dragon-Frog miniature available for sale to the general public. This highly detailed model contains nearly a pound of metal, and boasts a 10” wingspan. Backers of this project will receive their very own Vengathari miniature to impress their friends and torment their players, at a substantial savings from the eventual retail price.
The goal of this kickstarter project is also to keep things simple. I don’t want to clutter things up by offering tons of other models you may not want or that might slow down fulfillment. The Dragon-Frog model has already been sculpted, and a master mold has been produced. Making the production molds and casting pieces for delivery should be a matter of a few weeks, not a few months, and I aim to keep it that way.
FREE BESTIARY WITH STAT BLOCKS
We've put together some stat blocks of Vengathiri and all her kin to make it easier to use them in your games! Of course, you're always free to make up your own, but if you'd like, feel free to click the link above to get your copy of the SPAWN of SLUNDERMUSH Bestiary! This document is a work in progress, and may be added to as we unlock more monsters, but it's FREE, even if you don't back us, so check it out!
ADVENTURE MODULE ON THE WAY!
Announcing The Frogkin of SlunderMush! This hexcrawl adventure for Dungeon Crawl Classics and 5E will contain encounters with all of the frog-creatures presented in this kickstarter -and much, much more! When completed, it will be available for purchase as a pdf or pod book on DriveThruRPG, and the rest of the world is gonna have to pay full price to get it –like suckers! However, all of our backers at the Dragon Frog level will get their very own PDF…for FREE!
The adventure will be written by Donn Stroud and Erica Barlow, with cartography and illustrations by Andrew Barlow. Final pagecount, format and price still to be determined.
Funded! When we reach $800, the Dragon Frog project will be funded, and will definitely happen!
Unlike other dragons that have very few offspring that hatch and grow very slowly, Venathari spawns hordes of little monster pollywogs every couple seasons, and they rampage through the Great Slundermush Swamp. It is the job of local adventurers and heroes to make sure none of them survive, lest one monstrous Dragon-Frog become a plague of dozens-or hundreds!
At $1000, all backers will receive 1 pewter pollywog monster in addition to their Vengathari model, at no additional cost.
Like any good dragon, Vengathiri has her minions to help spread her evil throughout the swamp. Of course, her minionsare all frogs! At $1,100, all backers at $40 and up will get 1 Frogoid Poisonskin Thug in addition to their other rewards.
$1200 -3200 --More Monstrous Pollywogs Every $200, one more Monstrous Pollywog will be added to the pile of free models that all backers will get. If we reach $3200, that means each backer will get 12 free Pollywogs! There are 6 different pollywog variations already sculpted and mastered. At each $200 increment, another variation will unlock, until at $2000, All 6 will be unlocked and backers will all get 1 of each variation. Above $2000, the extra pieces received will be random, but at $3200, all backers will simply get 2 of each variation. Once they have unlocked, additional pollywogs will be available as Add-Ons for $1.00 each, in case you really feel you need an actual horde of them.
The people have spoken, and they really want the FrOgre to happen! Bowing to the will and pressure of the People, we have moved this Stretch Goal up to put it in striking distance! If we reach this new funding level, I will make the perhaps the most impressive of Vengathiri's adult offspring available as a $25 Add-On. This Large-Sized model stands on a 2" base and will be cast in lead-free pewter.
This was the FrOgre's original Stretch Goal level, and if we still reach this lofty height, I will sculpt a SECOND FrOgre pose that will also be available as a $25 Add-On! No idea on the specifics yet, but it will definitely have its big scary mouth wide open in some kind of feral ribbit/roar!
$4k and above: ???? if it starts looking like we might get up here, I have a whole bunch of really cool unreleased frog-monster sculpts, and I will start throwing them up!
Wanna give us more money to get even more cool stuff?! Okay, we can do that! To pledge for any add-on, simply adjust your pledge amount above the base level by the amount of the add-on(s) you wish to get. You can always just buy 'em in the Pledge Manager after the kickstarter is over, too (but if you boost your pledge it helps us unlock more Stretch Goals!)
Shipping is complicated, and we’ve seen way too many Kickstarters get in trouble by not charging enough for it, over-charging for it, communicating it badly, etc. We’re gonna try to make it as simple and painless as possible, therefore.
Shipping will be extra—it is not included with the pledge amounts (all that would really mean is jacking up the pledge values enough so that we think we’ll have enough to cover it). When your order is put together and ready to ship, we will send you an email with the shipping cost, with a link to pay by Paypal.
If you would like an estimate on shipping, the weight chart below shows the expected shipping weight of the Dragon Frog pledge level. If we start unlocking a lot of Free minis, I will adjust the weight accordingly. Also, if we unlock any Add-Ons, I will add their estimated weight to the chart as well. You can use the USPS Shipping Calculator to get an idea of the shipment cost from our shipping location (Michigan, ZIP 48183) to your location. Think of this as a ball-park number…I may have to add a bit for packaging material and labor (probably about a dollar) Optionally, you can feel free to message us with your expected pledge and location, and we can provide you with a personalized estimate.
Shipping will be by USPS First Class Package delivery or Priority Mail, whichever is more economical. International orders are welcome, and delivery will be by First Class International Package or Priority Mail International, whichever is more economical.
We will be prioritizing keeping shipping costs down in our packaging over ‘Out-of-Box Experience’. If we can fit all the figures safely in a Small Flat Rate box, we’d rather do that than put everything in a great big box that has individual little pretty boxes for all the figures.
We know paying for the shipping separately can be a bit of a hassle, but we think it’s the best way to make sure you get your rewards and pay the absolute least amount possible.
As all the sculpts are already completed, and most of them have also been mastered too, we are setting the estimated delivery as 4 months from the end of the campaign (but really don't think it will take nearly that long). we will post weekly updates to keep everyone informed of progress, or any impediments to progress that may arise.
Who is Dark-Platypus?
Dark-Platypus Studio is mostly and mainly me, Andrew Barlow. I’m an illustrator, sculptor, game designer, writer, all around creative guy. I’ve been running Dark-Platypus for over a decade now (I lose track of the years), making gaming tokens, life counters, miniatures and artwork. I make molds and do casting for a variety of small game companies, including Microworld, Hydra Miniatures, Firelock Games and others.
My lovely wife Erica helps out tons around here. She’s a veteran gamer who writes and runs fantastic adventures, she has just as much gaming experience as I do, but unlike me, can also remember stuff, which I think makes her experience actually count a lot more. She also knows her way around a paint brush.
A great friend and a great DM, Andrew is on board to help facilitate all the various logistics involved in running the Kickstarter. Actually born a gamer, I think, Andrew has superior skills in a lot of useful areas. He’s an excellent writer, great at logistics and management, knows tons about game rules (and how to abuse them) and is a master dm. Also, he thinks he’s Batman (he’s not…I’M BATMAN, but we let him dream). You may see Andrew pop up in the comments as he helps me stay communicative here…for future reference and to avoid confusion, HE is Andrew, while I am Andy (that’s how we do it in our own gaming group, and it works pretty well).
Gerald Gentry, Chris Klann
My flunky/friends who I have been training in aspects of my work. They can at least usually manage to pour metal without burning themselves. Both work as Security Guards in real life, and are gamers whenever they aren’t doing that. Gerry has vast knowledge of all classic rock and musicians in general, and is a fantastic resource in any trivia challenge. Chris has encyclopedic knowledge of all things Dinosaur and all things Pokemon, which comes in useful…whenever that kind of knowledge is required.
This will be added to as people begin to Ask some Questions Frequently.
Can you do a Painted Set pledge level?
Sadly, neither Erica nor I will have time to paint sets of figures for rewards. The only way we could make this work is by hiring a painting service to do it, and then adding the cost of the service into the pledge amount. We’d be making no money from that (unless we marked it up), so it wouldn’t be helping the project to move forward. I recommend contacting a painting service directly. If you like, you can contact me before shipping and I will drop-ship your rewards to the painting service of your choice for you.
