A Darkness Blooms

Daryl Gutierrez started out with good intentions. Wanting to provide all of Gotham’s citizens with the ability to defend themselves, he applied his brilliant mind to creating super seeds with transformative powers.

So successful were his experiments that he considered becoming a hero himself and even adopted the nickname Mister Bloom. But one of the patients he was treating escaped from his care, stole his plans, seeds, identity, and began spreading chaos in the streets of Gotham.

Mister Bloom had become extremely powerful. While his extraordinary fighting skills were a threat, it was the seeds he shared that caused the creation of an army of shape-shifting monsters.

With this Bloom imposter conquered, Daryl continued pushing his experiments further into the realm of mad science, and after taking too much of his own ‘medicine’, he succumbed to an inner darkness. He came to embrace the identity of Mister Bloom, and became a major threat to Gotham City, in particular Duke Thomas, the young protégé of Batman. These two were once childhood friends, but that went sour when Bloom turned Duke’s parents into hulking brutes.

This strange villain can alter his size at will. Thus, he can become a towering presence and hinder anyone trying to pass him by. Add a hideous face to his immense size and you’ll understand why his Menace is a significant problem for his foes. None will be too quick to enter his area as they will have to spend extra movement points to do so. Therefore you will want to be careful not to let Bloom enter your area. But even if you keep your distance, it won’t save you; his Reach skill allows him to strike from afar. Sounds awful, right? Well, what if I told you he is capable of healing himself? Well, he is, so…

But surely, he must have a weakness? Well, he does have low manipulation and thought characteristics. He might be somewhat of a genius, but his madness is a hindrance, making his plans unreliable.

Up next, let’s head to another stretch goal at… ahem… terminal velocity!

Oh, and if it wasn't properly emphasized just how awful Bloom is, you need to remember: he's been planting seeds...

I haven't read its Story, but is Mr.Bloom a vegetable. If that's the case, it could team-up with Poison Ivy.

Did we get an increase in pledges with the Bloom reveal??

Not my favorites pieces, but impressives nonetheless. I hope that we go back on the heroes side next. Unlocking Batwoman, Azrael, Spoiler and, yep, I'll continue asking her 'till the end, Question 2, Renee Montoya. I loved The 52 story following Infinite Crisis.

Great ! It looks like we'll have an interesting scenario revolving around Mr Bloom and his bloom-ettes ;-)

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds?

@Gabriel and others: Could be a licensing agreement. Anything from DC wishing to promote certain characters so we'll buy the trade paperbacks, to Monolith offering miniatures WizKids hasn't made. Of course, Monolith could be pulling a Zombicide -- using the same game system, and a different license every few years, even a second Batman with other characters. Now, who remembers Magpie??? :D

I'm gonna be honest and say I never heard of Bloom. Seems like a Mort of the Month.

I am glad to see that we should be getting rid of some tokens for minis, though. A game this good needs quality pieces.

      Its getting better and better....

There is nothing quite so grand as going out for the day and returning to three new updates!

As an entertaining coincidence, I'd never heard of Mister Bloom until this goal was announced, and yet today I found myself holding a copy of his cover on Batman #43. I almost bought it, but went with a Firestorm #1 (1978) instead. I'm half tempted to go back.

I think this way well be my favorite figure so far ( ok, tied with Poison and her Ivies ) - I'm a succor for great artistic horror, for which this clearly is. I'm so happy!

@Ed - I think these are replacing tokens used in the scenarios.

Only one safe in gotham? :D I guess the other ones were already broken into!

The computer monitors will be great for a Paranioa RPG game.

Acolytes would make a nice zombie variant as well!

@Anthony - They assured us Mr. Blooms miniature will be reinforced with ABS. It shouldn’t break easily.

@Tasty - They showed her miniature on their Twitter account. She caused a controversy. They’re probably tweaking her design. You can still see it if you look there.

Judt would like bat woman to be revealed. She's on the cover. Why can't we see her?

The safe is awesome. Props like that will see plenty of use in my superhero mini games.

I agree with David Nájera. Those look like an old 386 I used to have. I wonder if we'll see any of these characters with a StarTac phone

Bloom and cronies seem cool. I'm not familiar with the character, but like the concept. Don't really care about 3D terrain though. The benches and torchstands and shelves in Conan wound up having zero purpose.

Awesome!!! Theres any chance of us seeing Bat Gordon an Rookie following Mr Blooms Arc??? Please say " Maybe"!! =D
Guess that among the alt "Batmens", Bat Gordon and his robot pal would make a realy cool and diferent mechanic
