We've been a band through many years and many different incarnations, from the early acoustic, gypsy balladry of our first album, "Company with Kings",( https://soundcloud.com/venusilluminato/company-with-kings ) to the bombastic psychedelic epic "Civil War Ballad " (http://youtu.be/7l8qwOW14m4) from our 2nd release, "Children of the Earth," and now to where we find ourselves today: writing concise, catchy, and danceable rock and roll that we hope is both interesting and simultaneously accessible. Our location has changed too. Rob and Brandon picked up, left everything behind in Los Angels and moved to Austin, Texas with one objective in mind: reach as many people as possible with our music. In under a year we had completely rebuilt the band with incredible musicians Alex Kane, Devin Anderson and Julie Kennedy. We worked and built a chemistry that has been unmatched in any previous version of the band. We've revamped our sound and are writing the best songs of our career, and we've been able to gain a strong foothold in the vibrant Austin music scene.
We have also teamed up Grammy nominated producer and Austin legend Chris "Frenchie" Smith. Frenchie has produced high profile records for Jet, The Dandy Warhols, The Darkness, ...And You Will Know by the Trail of the Dead, and umteen others. In the summer of 2013 we recorded a 5 song EP with Frenchie at the Bubble Studios here in Austin. We recorded the entire EP to tape on the 24 track tape machine that was used to record the Eagles' album "Hotel California." How unreal is that?! Now we are gearing up to get back into the studio and expand the EP into a full length album, showcasing the full scope of the band and jam packing as many catchy melodies, psychedelic breakdowns, and exciting rock and roll as humanly possible.
That's where you come in.
We're launching this kickstarter campaign not just to finance the album but rather to put ourselves in a position to do something great with the album once it's completed. We will need to travel the country to promote it, get it pressed on vinyl, make t-shirts, buttons, and posters to sell at shows. We will have to work tirelessly and furiously to get these songs played on radio across the country and hopefully gain some traction. This is all expensive business and this "kickstart" will make all the difference for us.
Risks and challenges
As far as risks and challenges go, we will absolutely record, master and release the album no matter what, as long as this kickstarter is funded. There is no risk of that not happening. The hard part is then promoting it and getting people to love it. We will have to tour, create merchandise, continue making videos to post online, book festivals, and eventually distribute the album through a major label. The nice part is we will have an album ready, and that is half the battle. It will be a lot of work, but it's going to be a blast doing it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
