INDELIBLE by T. Paige
My project has evolved since 2007 beginning with a new way of taking photographs, a new way of practicing the art of photography, achieved by breaking a few well established rules, with breathtaking results that highlight our natural world and let that world visually 'speak' through the camera without the usual constraints of conventional photography. The photographs are not the product of any computer program. Instead they are the interchange of camera and our visible natural world with the least possible human interference, stretching the frozen moment across the visual spectrum.
The slide show is of the photographs in INDELIBLE which I have taken since 2007 around Fayette County, West Virginia mostly on Gauley Mountain. They owe a lot to the physicality of this area of West Virginia five miles from my home. They are a celebration of these mountains, nature, life, and really do speak to me: "This life is worth preserving. At all costs."
My show opens in a few days at the Art Emporium in Charleston, W.Va. I have invested of myself in this project. Time and money, effort, creative ability, the willingness to experiment and to break the unwritten and written rules. And the desire to bring a new way of looking at our world to the table. When you look at these unique photographs, I hope you realize through them as I have, that we live in quite an amazing place. A place that exudes beauty effortlessly in unexpected ways, even to our hurried eyes. The beauty is there. The camera is capable of revealing it to us if our eyes at first don't see. So it's all about truth...the truth of nature and the truth of the photographic revelation.
