About

                                        Project Physical

 What is "Project Physical" ?

A venture of Ionosonde Recordings that will  support the release and distribution of it's first physically released CD. This CD entitled "Ionosonde" is written and produced by sound artist Telegraphy  It will contain 7 tracks of his own signature style of dub techno, IDM and ambient soundscapes. "Project Physical" will ensure fabrication of this CD by Ionosonde Recordings. As part of the netlabel community, Ionosonde Recordings has been releasing free music via the internet since 2010. Now we want to make a better experience for our valued listeners by producing a CD.

Who is Telegraphy?

Since 2005 Ricard Sudney (a.k.a. Telegraphy) The force behind ionosonde recordings, created this netlabel in 2011.  He has released countless of E.P.'s since 2005 under the moniker Telegraphy and  Monopole on various major netlabels such as Kikapu, TestTube, rec72, Clinical Archives, Headphonica, and Happypuppy Recordings to name a few. Then in January 2010, he broke away from releasing on other netlabels too setting up his own solo artist microlabel (Metal-Oxide-Malfunction) which released ten albums of his in exactly in one years time. Then in January of 2011 ionosonde recordings came to being.

What will the CD sound like?

It will have the same stye of sound found in Ionosonde Recordings five most resent releases [iono-10 - iono-15] Here's a few excerpts from the CD "Ionosonde"

How is this CD going to be put together; is there studio time involved?

Like all albums, tracks need to be engineered or mastered properly in order to sound good. This is one of the finer points of Ionosonde Recordings - we do all of our production and mastering in house, so there is no need for the added expense of renting a studio. Also all fabrication and design of the CD itself will be done here as well. That means CD cover printing, duplication and shipping will done at Ionosonde Recordings. But, all of this can't be done without your generous support by helping us obtain vital equipment to produce this CD.

This equipment you talk of. What kind and why?

In order for "Project Physical" to work, certain pieces of essential equipment is needed for the production and distribution of Ionosonde's first physical CD "Ionosonde". Here's a run down of what is needed:

Silk-screening equipment: This is an acrylic or ink printer used to print graphics on CD covers and possibly the CD itself. A good printing set coasts about $300

CD duplicator printer: This device is a specialized production CD burner. It's much better then a laptop cd burner.because It's faster and more robust. (when your recording 100's of CD's; you need a burner that can take the punishment)This is the must expensive piece of gear we need. $500

New sound card and mastering software To produce a good sounding CD, you need a good sounding soundcard for mastering the cd. $200

Distribution and Registering Sending CD's out through the mail becomes expensive. To have the CD registered is another needed expense. (purchasing a online service) $100

Your a netlabel, you give music away. Then why start selling a CD?

Free music is good right? Especially if it's good quality music. But the problem with digital downloads is that you loss out on the most important factor - a pleasurable experience. To buy a CD that has tangible and materialistic value to it, is shown in countless studies to be more pleasurable then downloading a MP3 of the same song on the internet. This is why “Project Physical” is so important to Ionosonde. We want to give a better quality experience to our valued listeners.

So, after all is done and you sold some CD's, then what ? "Project Physical" will be used as a gauge to determine if there is significant interest in future CD releases of Telegraphy and other artist. This means Ionosonde Recordings would look into the possibility of becoming an established independent record label. Why? Besides having a significant demand from Ionosonde's audience for a physical CD, we want to provide a better experience to them. You can show off your collection of CD's to your girlfriend or your nosy neighbor. Try doing that with MP3's.

Risks and challenges

The number one risk that we here at Ionosonde Recordings might encounter is having this project go unfunded. That isn't to say that we will stop at any attempt to push forward to give our valued netlabel audience a more quality product outside of the virtual internet world.
