Our goal: Make quality, fun, children's picture books and get these books into libraries, schools and bookstores everywhere English is spoken.
The problem: Here (and hear) are a pair (not pear) of reasons the English language is crazy hard to understand: 1. Words can be pronounced the same but spelled differently. 2. Words that sound the same can have totally different meanings.
That can be challenging for children, for those with English as a second language, and for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (some of our friends at BEST BUDDIES).
One of the best things to do with challenges is to make the challenge FUN.
At the bottom of each page in book definitions of the words will be included.
“Do you see the sea?”
See: View; look; observe.
Sea: Body of water, usually larger than a lake, smaller than an ocean; often an extension of an ocean.
“I wish I had this book when I was teaching. I would have used it in my classes.” – Kali, mother and former elementary school teacher
“It’s very cute. I can see how it will help kids understand these words and recognize others that are similar.” – Nina, grandma and former private school administrator
“This book teaches homophones in a clever way and will work well in grades 2 through 4. It could also be a fun book to introduce to 5th and 6th graders and have them create their own homophone books." – Andrea, elementary educator 27 years
“This is beautiful. I know lots of our parents, buddies and kids will love it.” – Jared Thorkelson, BEST BUDDIES Advisory Board Chair
“The pictures look fun. Oh, and the words are good too.” – Tate, age 6
“I want to read this book with my dad at bedtime. I’ll do most of the reading.” – Bella, age 7
“An epic collection of homophones for all kids to enjoy. " – Aryn, age 9 (yep, she's just that smart)
“I like it. Makes me want to look at other words like that.” – Nico, age 10
“This book is clever and engaging for the readers." – Aleen, mom/PTA member
We have a track record of delivering quality products that have sold in stores and online all over the world. We will do this right – hard cover, full color, quality picture book. No stretch goals.
HEAR what’s HERE is affordable. Many picture books sell for around $24.99 or more. You can pledge to get HEAR what’s HERE for just $15.
The other reason we are making our pledge levels so inexpensive is so you can feel good about adding a couple of extra bucks if you choose one of our BEST BUDDIES rewards.
So, in addition helping get HEAR what’s HERE published, being the first to get HEAR what’s HERE, and saving money over the MSRP, if you use one of our BEST BUDDIES pledges we will gift two to four dollars to the BEST BUDDIES non-profit organization to help those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is totally optional and only works for those two pledge levels. The reason for this project, and all pledges made toward it, is to produce a fun children's picture book.
Schools, libraries and bookstores are a whole (not hole) different animal. Inquire when we get funded and we will have some for you too (or two). But please order your own personal copy now to get the project rolling and your school, library or bookstore will get a “freebie” when they order to pay you back (minimum of 11 ordered).
Just like Pedro promised, "If you vote for me (or back this project) your wildest dreams will come true."
*Add $6 per order (not per book) if you want the books autographed. We are not trying to gouge you, it’s just that we live in different states and there will be some expense and logistics for us both to sign the books.
** We apologize shipping costs are so high outside the US there is no “media rates” outside the US. Inside the US the media rates are quite reasonable.
Risks and challenges
Mike or Val could get hit by a bus and that would mess up everything. Aside from that things look pretty good. We are using tested and proven printers. We are using U.S. Post Office to ship most of the books.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
