Monocle turns the phone you already have into an easy and safe bike light, allowing users to increase visibility for night riding without the inconveniences of a traditional bike light. Monocle attaches to the belt of the rider and by using a red filter over the flash on the Iphone we can increase visibility and help you get home safe. We have already finished the development of monocle, secured manufacturing and supply partners to assist us through production and even have a patent pending. Help us produce the first production run of Monocles and release our custom iphone application and you can start traveling a bit safer with your very own Monocle.
Stay safe using a device you already have with you
Automatically adjusts to fit most belts
Attaches to the person so it travels with you
Will not be stolen when your bike is parked
Usable on any bike in your fleet, no tools required
Retro reflective strip helps increase visibility even if battery fails
Made from durable long lasting materials
Monocle comes in one size and fits both “naked” iphones and iphones with slim hard cases (if you need a compatible case just add $3 to your pledge and we will send you a slim case with our logo, pictured below)
We have done a few preliminary studies on battery use of the flashing functionality in the iphone application. From our experimentation we have seen that flashing 3 times per second, a 15 minute ride only uses about 7% of your phone battery.*
We have also optimized the design of the Monocle and the Monocle iphone application to manage your power settings and increase your visibility. The application features a battery life estimation tool that allows you to dial in the estimated duration of your ride and the Monocle will automatically suggest a flash frequency that will suit the length of the ride. You can also adjust the flash frequency and immediately see the impact on battery life.
The monocle application also features audible and vibration warnings when your phone is running low on batteries. The design of the Monocle orients the iphone speakers so that it is does not interfere or muffle the alert.
*Battery life can be impacted by push notifications, wifi, bluetooth and other system settings and should only be used as an estimate.
Using Monocle is simple and it doesn’t use as much battery power as you might think.
1. Insert the Monocle under your belt and thread the bottom of the monocle through the slot ring.
2. Activate the monocle application on your iPhone.
3. Slip your iphone into the monocle. (it can hold a “naked” iPhone or a slim case)
Monocle is also made of flexible webbing so when its not in use you can put it anywhere.
In response to concerns about the stability of the iPhone in the Monocle, we wanted to share a quick video showing how the pocket secures the iPhone in place and the self righting design prevents the phone from being shaken loose.
Places to Use Monocle
Use Monocle while biking, walking, and jogging to increase visibility.
Other Places to Put Monocle
Don't have a belt on... well that is OK, put Monocle on your U lock or on a backpack.
Monocle is created to be durable and long lasting. The main body is made from a durable abrasion resistant synthetic webbing and sewn with high strength nylon thread. Although our materials are sourced domestically and internationally, it is our intention for the Monocle to be assembled here in the USA. Doing this allows us to have control over production quality and achieve small production runs, which will give us to ability to offer color and material customization.
How We Plan to Use Our Funding
With the funds we are requesting through Kickstarter we will be able to manufacture our first run of Monocles and create the accompanying iphone application. We need to raise $8,000 in order to get this party started.
This image discribes the base rewards.
We have also come up with a few extra goals for the whole project. If these goals are reached these rewards will be available to backers as well.
ADDING COLOR CHOICES!!!
With our minimum funding amount we are going to create the first production run of Monocles in black webbing with titanium reflective tape.
At $10,000.00 we will offer Monocles in black or white webbing with titanium reflective tape.
At $14,000.00 funding the iPhone application will be released free with product.
At $16,000.00 funding we will add one color option for reflective film (the picture below are some options of colors).
At $18,000.00 funding we will add a second color option for reflective film for you to choose from.
At $20,000.00 funding we will add a third color option for reflective film for you to choose from.
Everyone who supports us will be asked to vote on the colors of film that will be launched for the Monocle line. Then when you finalize your shipping information, you will be allowed to pick whatever Monocle color you prefer!
Production With confidence in a successful Kickstarter project we have found the financial backing that will allow us to create a retail website to offer more Monocles for additional phone models and grow our product line. We have outlined a specific manufacturing plan and hope to stick to the following production schedule as closely as possible.
We are very excited about the opportunities which successful kickstarter project could bring our way. Obviously, iPhones are just a fraction of the smartphone market and we are looking to develop monocle for a variety of other models. If you are interested in suggesting a phone model please send us an email at Info@studioKMD.com with the subject “Future Models” and the model of phone you want to see produced and we will be sure to let you know if it becomes available.
We are also looking at the possibility developing other biking products that incorporate our technology. If you have some interest in licensing the technology please contact us at Info@studiokmd.com.
If you have read this far, Thank You so much for your time and for considering supporting Monocle. In addition to your support for this project we also would like you to check out some other cool projects:
