I'm JS Mayank, and I'm the writer-director of EMIT, a sci-fi short film about a world where time flows backwards. An old man looks forward to greeting his wife, as she comes alive, while his 7-year old granddaughter comes to terms with her upcoming mortality.
This film started as an idea seven years ago, and has been percolating in my mind for a while. I finally got around to writing it as a short script, and the screenplay won a Grand Prize at the Table Read My Screenplay contest earlier this year, taking us to Sundance, where it was performed. The script beat out over 1200 other screenplays, and based on the terrific response we got, we realized we had to make the film.
So we spent the majority of the year fundraising - we raised over $23,000 via Kickstarter, got a premier cast, incredible locations, and were able to shoot the film.
We filmed EMIT on the Arri Alexa, one of the premier cameras used in Hollywood. We've also had the good fortune of working with some terrific actors like Jack Coleman (HEROES, THE OFFICE), James Keane (APOCALYPSE NOW) and 9-year old newcomer Katelyn Hunter, who's given an absolutely sensational performance.
We are currently working with visual effects geniuses Jon Chesson and Maxx Burman, both of whom have been working on huge studio projects.
Here's a little taste of their work on our short, so far --
VISUAL EFFECTS SNEAK PREVIEW (BEFORE AND AFTERS)
Our team is currently working tirelessly on visual effects, editing, sound design and composing the music, to get the film finished in time to submit to the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL.
Which brings us to why we're coming to you. We've had some incredible people help us out in this project so far, but now that we're almost at the finish line, we need a final push.
We need some finishing funds to complete the VFX, do a final color correction, finalize the sound and musical score, and basically get the film locked. WE INVITE YOU TO BE A PART OF THE JOURNEY. We are very proud of the story, performances, cinematography and production design of the film. Once completed, we feel it's really going to be a terrific short film - one that stands alone, but may also have the potential to be expanded into a full-length feature.
