me, myself and ply
Hello, I am Riku from Finland and I believe I can ply. I’m a second year Master student at the Royal College of Art in Design Products. Before my MA, I studied furniture design and I am also a cabinet maker, so for me, it feels natural to work with wood. The idea of the frame came to me when I was milling plywood at the workshop. I started exploring the tensions of the grooved plywood and wondering how to use it for hanging posters.
I believe I can ply
I believe I can ply is a picture frame that works as a clip for attaching pictures, posters, papers and notes. The frame can be used as a drawing board as well. Tension between the grooved plywood and the wooden dowel holds the picture or notes in place. Changing the picture is easy, by rolling the dowel smoothly up and down.
- 4mm thick Birch plywood
- Wooden dowel

how am I going to use the money
For materials, the production run, and the packaging materials.
I am really exited about the project. The goal for me is to develop a bigger product family with different sizes of frames.
- Sir Samuel Bentham and Immanuel Nobel who invented plywood.
- Oscar Lhermitte for running the Quickstarter workshops for us.
- Mira Nameth, yksi kaksi, Heleen Sintobin and everyone else from the RCA who has been supporting and giving me feedback.
- And of course you guys! Thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
In Finland we call poor quality products 'Monday versions' (it means Mondays, after a tiring weekend, are not the ideal days to the best work). I'll try my best and not to work on Mondays...
But let's be serious. I am currently working on my graduation project at the RCA. To make sure that I am able to deliver good quality products, the shipping will take place after my graduation. All the frames will be manufactured by CNC, which should produce consistent quality. I'll be sanding the frames by hand to ensure good quality.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
