About this project
We're ECSTATIC that we've reached our fundraising target but every additional donated dollar still goes to LADDIE--and ensures it will be just THAT much better, and completed THAT much faster!
We are incredibly grateful for further contributions! Thank you so much for your support!
Until now, Alan Ladd Jr. has remained virtually invisible—ironic, as he is the man with the Midas touch, perpetually finding and transforming untapped talent into household names. LADDIE will change all that, finally shining a spotlight on this invisible man, familiarizing the world with the behind-the-scenes mogul responsible for their favorite films and the existence of their favorite stars. Revealed by some of the most celebrated and iconic names today, LADDIE tells the story of the wild, breakout success of the man behind the icons—a story with the potential to draw the widest possible global audience.
Drawing inspiration from documentaries including MY ARCHITECT and the KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE, our story will be told through a combination of exciting visuals and anecdotal interviews conducted by our director, Laddie’s daughter, Amanda. Completed interviews include George Lucas, Ron Howard, Sigourney Weaver, Mel Gibson, Morgan Freeman, Ben Affleck, Mel Brooks, Richard Donner and many more.
Interwoven with our visually arresting images and interviews will be a rare (and in some cases, exclusive) look at many of the most influential films, actors, and filmmakers of the last 50 years. Hours of interviews with Laddie himself will provide footage and voiceover underscoring our narrative.
Through these rare personal stories, audiences will meet one of Hollywood’s biggest power brokers and join Amanda on a journey of discovery about her father—learning how this private, soft-spoken man became the mighty mogul known to all of Hollywood as “Laddie.”
Your Kickstarter contribution will help us scale major financial hurdles:
- Funding to film four more interviews in and out of California.
- Music and film clip rights and clearances.
- Finishing costs including color correction, audio mix, final editing, etc.
- Film festival costs, promotion, advertising, and marketing. Without alloting for this, we won’t be able to share LADDIE with the rest of the world.
We love you because you visited our Kickstarter page.
We love you because you’re still reading.
We are making this movie because Laddie is a movie mogul unlike any other. We believe his stories—the stories behind his films, the artists, and the journey of Laddie himself—must be told.
We love you because with your generous support, Laddie will no longer be the most influential movie mogul you’ve never heard of.
AMANDA LADD-JONES - DIRECTOR/PRODUCER Screenwriter Amanda Ladd Jones is Alan Ladd, Jr.’s youngest daughter from his first marriage. She was born in London November 14, 1972, six weeks before Laddie moved the entire family back to LA to begin his famously successful stint at 20th Century Fox. Amanda’s film education began at a very young age, seated on the floor of her father’s screening room while he ran movies for the industry’s most accomplished filmmakers. Between spending time on that screening room floor and visiting her dad at the office and on set, Amanda gained an insight into filmmaking to rival even the best film schools. After graduating high school in Los Angeles, Amanda moved to New York City where she attended college and worked freelance in film and television production, carving out time between jobs to write. Eventually, Amanda’s writing career led her back to Los Angeles where she graduated from UCLA’s accredited screenwriting program. Her most recent script, LAID OUT was optioned by 3311 Productions. She lives in Silver Lake with her husband and daughter.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge for LADDIE is, and has always been, financial. From our illustrious interviewees to our amazing team, there is no lack of enthusiasm for--or commitment to--our project. Unfortunately, without proper funding, we have been forced to work on the project in small segments with long periods of inactivity in between. Your contribution to our successful Kickstarter campaign will enable us to dedicate the necessary time and resources to complete LADDIE on a strict, deadline-driven schedule.
The greatest risk facing LADDIE is that stories like his never get told. Help us make sure that doesn't happen. You won't regret it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
