The answer is UP.
UP is a credit card size board which merges the benefits of Raspberry Pi2, the standard "de facto" of makers with the high performance and low power consumption of latest tablet technology : the Intel Cherry Trail Atom Quad Core x5-Z8300 64 bits up to 1.84GHz ( http://ark.intel.com/products/87383/Intel-Atom-x5-Z8300-Processor-2M-Cache-up-to-1_84-GHz ). Thanks to the 14nm technology, the CPU is rated at only 2W SDP.
The internal GPU is the new Intel Gen 8 HD with 12 Execution Units up to 500MHz which delivers extremely high 3D graphic performance. At the benchmark section you can find a comparison between the GPU of Atom x5-Z8300 and other platform including the Intel 4th generation of Intel Core i3. You will be astonished by the performances.
UP is equipped with 1GB DDR3L RAM and 16 GB eMMC. UP has 40 GPIO with the same connector and pin definition of Raspberry PI2 leaving the freedom to the makers to build up their shield. UP has 5 x USB 2.0, 1 x USB 3.0 OTG , 1 x Gbit Ethernet, 1 x DSI port, 1 x Camera ( MIPI ), 1 x HMDI and a RTC. UP has Intel security features needed for professional IoT applications such Intel AES New Instructions and Intel Identity Protection Technology ( https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-advanced-encryption-standard-aes-instructions-set )
UP supports Linux, Windows 10 and Android 5.0 .
The CPU is supported by Android 5.0 Lollipop, Microsoft Windows 10 and we support and enable Linux through our UP Community.
With a 5-10 dollar housing, UP becomes probably the smallest desktop PC in the world.

At the heart of UP will our online UP Community (www.up-community.org). It will comprise of users and developers who will pro-actively support and share knowledge with each other to help bring UP projects to life. We invite all people like you who are the makers and innovators of our new generation to participate in our new community.
The first members of our UP Community will be software developers from Emutex who created the popular ubilinux distributions for the Intel Edison and Intel Galileo maker platforms. Emutex will create a new ubilinux distribution, based on Ubuntu, for UP and will make it available for download by community members. Emutex will also provide technical support to ubilinux users.
We openly encourage Android and Windows users to join our UP Community and also play an active role in supporting users of these operating systems. You have the opportunity to play a very influential part in UP’s future !
The UP Community will be launched to all users during February 2016. The UP Community will open exclusively in December 2015 to the innovators who bought the first 50 UP samples.
We invite early adopters to give feedback on their user experience and we will consider this valuable feedback as we proceed to the volume production of the UP board.
We created UP, the product, the community, the shop to help makers to make their dreams come true. To help them to realize the product and to move to the next level : the mass production.
UP can be used for mass production since production, design criteria and validation tests follow the industrial standard. UP is produced by Aaeon, industrial embedded company of Asus group.
UP team can access to all the necessary resources to modify UP in according to your requirement or to help you transferring your project to another platform.
We are constantly looking for partners to create accessories and expansions module.
UP has 40 GPIO with the same connector and pin definition of Raspberry Pi2. We will try to validate existing Raspberry Pi2 expansions and create some new ones. You can be or become one of our suppliers !
With UP, everything is possible. The beauty of IoT is makers' creativity has no limitations. We would like you to share your projects with us in community, and we look forward to seeing more different applications.
Just a few days before submitting the project to KICKSTARTER, UP received the support of EnOcean ( https://www.enocean.com/en/home/ ) company leader in energy harvesting wireless technology; EnOcean will support the UP project giving the access to UP users to the Kinetic Design Kit and Smart Home kit.
Kinetic Design Kit : Imagine you can design your own battery-less switch? No problem with the Kinetic Design Kit and a simple 3D printer. The kit offers a nice plug&play Mini Switch reference design and gives new impetus to product developers and engineers for battery-less wireless switch solutions. Developers get an entire system for energy harvesting wireless products powered by kinetic energy including detailed 3D printing data for a fast and easy prototyping. The kit’s core elements are the ECO 200 kinetic energy generator and the PTM 330 wireless module. The pairing is the perfect basis for all applications sending wireless signals by the energy of motion.
Smart Home Kit: The Smart Home Starter Kit offers a speedy, simple and cost-effective approach to battery-less wireless solutions for intelligently connected homes. It includes a variety of energy converters and solar-powered modules as well as end product examples enabling developers to effortlessly create a variety of self-powered wireless sensors. The components are based on the EnOcean technology, which harvests energy directly from its surroundings — from motion, light or differences in temperature. This means that all products enabled by this technology are entirely maintenance-free, requiring no wiring or cabling, and are particularly flexible in implementation. These are core benefits for innovative smart home automation solutions, which meet the tenants’ individual requirements and can be expanded at any time.
Check this video! UP is successfully booting, and we are entering BIOS to test some setting. The HDMI and USB function work fine.
* A Big thanks to the guys of CPU-Monkeys for the benchmark !

Risks and challenges
The most important think of UP project is not the board itself but the community around UP.
The board aims to unleash the creativity of the people. The users, the makers are the keys. We want to create an ecosystem around UP with a website, a web community and a web shop accessible to everyone. We want to see where the people creativity will take UP and what people can do with a such powerful tiny board.
We want UP Shop not only to be the reference site for the user to buy UP but a way for the makers and UP community members to sell their solutions. We want to help the innovators to bring the idea to the next level helping them to get customized solutions, to be in touch with ecosystem partners, to find a way together to fund their projects.
The software support is the key and the challenge is to create a strong Linux community able to work on a complex high performances architecture like Intel Cherry Trail Atom X5. We hope to be able to engage the best Linux programmer & makers to help us.
We also hope the community can extend to many other license free operative systems.
We also need the community to help up to improve the product specifications for all the future solutions that we want to launch.
We want all the coming UP solutions to be the fruit of the community creativity and not only of our team. The community must become the new UP Team. We need the contribution of everyone and the challenge is to keep high level of engagement in the community.
UP aims to become an complete independent company but keeping strong link with Aaeon/Asus/Emutex and Intel to continue deliver innovative solutions for maker and to leverage industrial manufacturing capability of Aaeon.
We want this project to succeed to become the reference for all the maker solutions powered by Intel / x86 technology.
We've planned already to work on the next Intel Atom generation ( codename Broxton/Apollo Lake ) to be delivered in late 2016 and continue to release year after year innovative maker solutions but we need your help to make it happens.
But to make all of this comes true we need your support !
