(Note: Due to my old equipment finally giving up the ghost, I was unable to produce a video specifically for this campaign. Instead, I have chosen to upload one of my episodes so you can A, enjoy it, and B, see exactly what you're helping to save with your donation! Thank you!)
Terror Obscura is a long-running comedy review web series dedicated to taking a closer look at the best and worst horror movies ever made.
For several years, I, Leslie Rice, a.k.a. the Fear Fan, have delved into classic franchises such as the Nightmare on Elm Street series, stinkbombs like House of the Dead, and lesser known gems such as Wes Craven's Shocker.
After all this time, the show is in need of new equipment, and we would LOVE to have your donation to help us get it!
Right now, we're working on Season 2, where I'll be focusing on the Friday the 13th series! Don't forget though, I alternate every franchise-based episode with something different to keep things fresh, so there's going to be plenty of fun even if you AREN'T a fan of the man in the hockey mask!
Season 2 will encompass 25 episodes, 2 of which have already been completed. In addition to these, I'll also be producing numerous Fright Bites episodes that, while shorter, will provide you with something to tide you over until the next main episode is complete.
My goal is to try and produce a new Terror Obscura episode every 3 weeks, with a new Fright Bites episode popping up to fill in the gaps.
Donations will primarily be going toward the purchase of new Final Draft editing software, and a MacBook Pro capable of running it.
I already have a camera and other production materials, so I just need a little help with these last few components!
Primary Goal: $600
If we reach this goal, we'll be about halfway to the cost of the computer. Keep in mind that the more donations we receive, the faster we can purchase the equipment we need!
Stretch Goal 1: $1,000
Thanks to everyone who helped me reach my primary goal! Since I've gotten there so quickly, I thought I might set a stretch goal since I've got 20 days or so left.
If I reach my first stretch goal, I'll be able to buy the computer free and clear. Since I won't be spending so much of my own cash, I'll be able to purchase the rest of the necessary equipment, such as the editing software, faster.
IF I hit this goal, I've decided to produce a short documentary episode showing how I make the show. I've always wanted to, so this'll give me the perfect excuse!
Risks and challenges
Since the web series is already being produced, the only real roadblocks are the occasional scheduling conflicts, delays, and equipment issues that sometimes cause a snag in any production.
Since we are reviewing copyrighted material, there may be occasional questions and issues in those regards. However, since the use of all materials is transformative in nature, and since the audio and video clips in the show are for the purposes of parody, their use is protected under United States fair use law.
