Builders! is a game about building towers, a game about knocking the towers of your opponents down, and a game about building a lean, mean, building machine of a deck of employees.
Builders! is a deck-builder where you’re trying to build the tallest, and most valuable, skyscrapers in the city. During your turn you will use the cards in your hand - Employees - to buy more cards from the market. They could be additional Employees to make your deck better, or Floors that you can build in your plaza.
Employees are the cards that make up your deck, giving you the resources that you need to either build your own Floors, or to tear down your opponent's Floors. Some specialize in building certain types of buildings, others help you hire more people to your deck, and still more have other special abilities.
As soon as you build a Floor, you've got a Building. Multiple Floors can be stacked to build a higher Building, getting you more points in the process. Doing so puts you at risk of jealous competitors tearing your work down, or an unfortunate visit from the Building Inspector.
The game ends based upon the number of Floors in play (8 for 4 players, 9 for 3 player, 10 for 2 players). There's one final round after that before players determine their end score by adding the value of each Floor they have built, the height of each Floor, and any additional Value they may have added through other Floors creating buffs or advantages. The player with the highest cumulative value wins!
Two player gameplay video!
The game is going to come with all the cards you need to play Builders with 2 to 4 players. This includes at least 100 cards of Employees and Floors (final count TBD based upon stretch goals: it determines which printer we go with, and certain printers make more cards more viable).
48 Employee Cards
59 Floors Cards
1 Inspector Card
These are the first kind of cards. You start with just four, using them to build an entire staff of labourers to construct everything you could need as a newcomer to the construction business.
You'll be using these floors to build the buildings across your plaza. Whether you build just a single skyscraper that reaches into the clouds, or a handful of low rises, you'll be able to choose your own strategy to win.
And that's it! We have honed this game like a piece of art.
A full rulebook will be included for people to peruse in an update before the end of the first week of the Kickstarter. It may be subject to change due to printing requirements, etc.
They've got their review right here for your listening pleasure. We took out a sampling of some of our favorite things they said:
"The game is simple, I think it’s easy to pick up, and I think it’s really fun… it travels really well. I could take it to a bar with me and play it and have a good time ."
"The other thing I really like about this game that’s really unique and you don’t see a lot of … is that the art and the immersion in the game is important to us … every single character in this game is very inclusive in art styling. I mean, you have every single race and gender represented here in an art styling, in a card game, that I think is probably the best representation of that I have ever seen, which I think is really super cool … We are actually seeing everyone truly super represented in a card game … and the best part is, they all drink beer … It’s a universalism."

Where's all the money going? Well, to making the game. And related stuff. We've included a decent share into what we call the "What if things go wrong" fund to ensure that we have those extra monies just in case, making sure that even if the world conspires against us, you still get your game.
We've included a breakdown below.
The majority goes to actually getting this thing made and into your hands.
We're a group of creative folks making a go at supporting ourselves by making things up. It's pretty awesome.
Risks and challenges
This is our very first Kickstarter as a team, but we’ve got a bunch of experience designing games. Our team has been part of over a dozen successful Kickstarters for other companies, and members have designed games including Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Board Game, ReAnimator, and more.
As such, we've been able to plan.
At the time of writing, there are a lot of questions in the air regarding the status of tariffs and such. We've added an extra cushion to our budget to accommodate. On the other side, if shipping drastically changes our fulfillment partners are in a great position to account for this.
Otherwise, we've done everything we can to ensure that there are as few risks as possible. The game is completely designed, the art for the game is completed, etc. As soon as the Kickstarter money hits our bank accounts, we will be sending the appropriate amount off to the manufacturer to begin production and get a prepress copy as soon as possible to show you and solve any problems that may arise. Our art team is ready to go with recreating people as various levels are backed, ensuring a short turnaround for these pieces.
Our entire budget is built around having an extra buffer in case things go terribly awry. With that, we can be professional and give you a heads up with updates as needed.
We are committed to ensuring that you get what you expect from this kickstarter and that you're never left going months without an update.
