Mystery Babylon is an original post-apocalyptic comic series like you've never seen before. It's a high-energy fantasy comic which follows the adventures of Kick Girl, an immortal demon with an unpleasant attitude, and her happy-go-lucky priest sidekick, Zero.
At the end of the Apocalypse, all of the demons were sealed away in "the Pit." A conflicted Kick Girl made a promise to the dying hero J.J., never to break the seal. A promise she has kept for the past thousand years. Until now...
Mystery Babylon takes a unique twist on themes from Revelations and mixes it with a very lighthearted and expressive sense of humor. It's a fun-loving adventure comic suited for both young adults and adults alike. If you love angels, demons, superheroes, mythology, constant backstabbing, name-calling, awkward romances, and holy water squirt bottles... then this is the comic for you!
The goal of this Kickstarter is to raise enough money to print out Chapter 3 as a perfect bound, soft cover, graphic novel. The book will be 6.5"x10", 48 pages long, full color, on high quality glossy paper. Graphic Novels of Chapters 1 and 2 are included in some of our Pledge Tiers, so you can collect the full set so far!
Val Hochberg (Val Brazier) was born in the freezing cold snows of Buffalo, NY but moved to the burning heat of the Phoenix deserts to pursue a comic career. She is both the writer and artist of Mystery Babylon. She has been working on Mystery Babylon since 2010 and doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon!
She has also worked on many licensed sketch cards projects for Topps, Cryptozoic, and 5finity, such as Star Wars, DC Comics, Adventure Time, Mars Attacks, Archer, and The Walking Dead.
She really likes Star Wars, Dragon Age, giggling, and her Boosterific husband, Scott.
I want to give a big thank you to Rachel Magnan for editing my Kickstarter video! I also want to give thanks to Free Music Archive for providing awesome free music.
Thank you to Bleeding Cool, who featured this this Kickstarter on their site! So honored!
Thanks to all my friends and peers who gave me feedback and inspiration for the Kickstarter. Thanks to my parents and sisters for encouraging me to draw. :)
And biggest thanks to my husband and inspiration, Scott. For everything he does every day to help make this comic happen.
And most of all, a big huge THANK YOU! to everyone who supports the comic. Without you, this book would not be possible. ♥
Risks and challenges
A big challenge in this project is shipping. In the case for all graphic novel projects, there can be delays in both the printing and shipping processes. But I've used Print Ninja before to print out Chapters 1 and 2 and the books look awesome!
I always "expect the unexpected" in regards to any potential delays in receiving the books from the printers. If that is the case, I will be sure to keep you all informed through Kickstarter updates.
There could also be delays in shipping books out to supporters as well, if the Kickstarter goes over and beyond my expectations.
I have some great ideas for some Stretch Goals! Adding these bonuses and add-ons may take a little bit of extra time for production.
Another risk is keeping up proper communication with the backers. I will do my best to answer any and all questions as quickly as possible. I will also be sending out question and request forms to certain backers regarding information for original artwork and such. So be sure to check your emails from Kickstarter.
This is the first time I am running a Kickstarter. I've tried to prepare myself for bumps in the road, but I'm sure it will be a bit of a learning process. So I really appreciate your patience! Although this is my first time, I have many mentors and peers who have had successful Kickstarters that I can turn to for advice.
Thank you all again for your support and thank you for reading Mystery Babylon!
