Post-Funding Goals! Why I STILL need to keep it building!
Hey folks. I'm so grateful to all who have joined in my Kickstarter project! Im so thrilled that it has funded and very excited to finish making the album, but let's not stop there! Any funds raised above the stated goal are going to help me to fill in the rest of the picture! After I finish recording and mixing, I still need to:
1) Manufacture the cds 2) Get new photos 3) Design the album cover 4) Update my website to reflect the new album's release! None of these are cheap, and all are necessary!
Please help me to continue getting the word out to get more folks to pre-buy the album...or whatever! Oh, and I've added a few NEW rewards! Have a look at the page.
I've recorded 16 albums and I currently own…ZERO! My ultimate goal is to complete this album exactly the way I would like it to sound... and own it!
Due to a few recent changes in my world, for the very first time in my 25 year recording, career I have complete freedom to write and record music as I wish.
Safety net gone, no one to answer to! Sometimes that's what it takes to create a truly personal, uninhibited, artistic statement. It's given me a new jolt of energy and drive to create music I love, play live shows where I choose, and make an album the way I envision it…oh yeah, and I get to play more banjo!
There was a time when I put the banjo on the back burner while I taught myself to play slide guitar, sing and write songs. And when I was ready to bring the banjo back, i felt my hands were tied…I wasn't the one paying for those albums and I felt obligated to keep the banjo in the shadows and focus on "radio friendly" songs and production. Things have changed!
I've begun to work on a new, self-produced album where I'm calling all the shots! I've written a bunch of new songs under the influence of many life changes over the past few years - from losing my father (and the pain and introspection involved), to getting married and having a baby with my wife! Oh, and the quadruple-whammy of parting ways with management, label, booking agency and publisher… and ALL the repair work and self motivation required to “kickstart” my music career after such a big shakeup!
I'd like to finish this project without selling it off wholesale to a label, and without funding it with a stack of credit cards…either way is limiting and will affect the end product. I feel that this album I've begun creating, "The Bell", will be my best, most personal work yet! When it's completed, I will either release it myself or license it to an established label and benefit from their promotional efforts to get it out to the world. I will retain ownership either way, but first, I have to finish making the album!
So, I'd like to invite you to be part of this process and help make it happen! I need to raise $12,500 - this includes recording, mixing and mastering the album, paying musicians and covering all "crowd-funding" expenses.
Thank you for all your support over the years and for hearing my story! Please check out the rewards and see if anything interests you! Im also happy to add other levels if you have a cool idea for a reward!
Heres one of the video updates from my last Kickstarter project for a live album I made (yep, another album I DONT own!)
HERE ARE PICS OF SOME OF THE REWARDS!
WANT TO COMBINE REWARDS? - Go for it! Just add in the $ amount of any other rewards to your pledge and then let me know what you would like!
Risks and challenges
After I finish recording, mixing and mastering this album, I will pursue releasing it on a well respected label. My plan is to retain ownership, but license this album to the label and benefit from their promotional efforts and get it out to the world. This way I won't have to become my own record label…that's NEVER been my goal! However if I can't release this album with a label in a reasonable amount of time, I will definitely release it myself. "Yousayfurtado" Records perhaps? ;)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
