What is The Beam?
Welcome to The Beam–Your Magazine for Renewable Energy!
A sustainable future is on the horizon and there are truly incredible renewable energy developments coming to light every day. Did you know Portugal ran entirely off renewable energy for four consecutive days? Or that within six hours, the world’s deserts receive more energy from the sun than humankind consumes in one year? The Beam is committed to the purpose, potential and people of renewable energy, bringing the latest in clean technology through beautiful, insightful and informative stories.
The Beam makes renewable energy accessible and interesting for the everyday reader. In-depth interviews from influential thinkers, articles on rapidly-evolving technological advancements, projects that are shifting global energy trends, as well as facts and figures about what’s around the corner are presented to our readers in a uniquely designed magazine you’d be proud to hold in your hands.
Our unique interviews
We reach out to remarkable change-makers in renewable energy and cleantech to conduct unique interviews.
Some of our interviews in edition #1 included:
- Prof. Claudia Kemfert, Head of the Department of Energy, Transportation and Environment at the German Institute for Economic Research
- Adrian Ramsay, Chief Executive for the Centre of Alternative Technology
- Dr. Holger Kraft, a lawyer specialising in Energy, Infrastructure and Renewable Energy
In edition #2, our readers can expect to see more than 10 interviews from renewable energy experts including:
Hans-Josef Fell, President of Energy Watch Group
Cédric Philibert, Climate Change Policy Advisor for the International Energy Agency
Steve Sawyer, Secretary General of the Global Wind Energy Council
We strive to present the best renewable energy news, trends and interviews to keep audiences informed and interested in the global shift taking place.
Who are we?
We’re the Beam Team - small but dynamic, we are working in close proximity with key industry professionals on a daily basis. We each have a strong personal fascination by the global renewable energy transformation taking place, shifting societal attitudes towards resource consumption. We’re a researcher, a writer, a community manager, an editor and a designer that work together to create something we love, and want others to love too. We self-financed and printed 2000 copies of our first edition and distributed them for free around Europe. After receiving excellent feedback, our desire to create edition #2 has only grown.
How can you help us?
We want to keep spreading the news on what’s happening globally in renewables. In order to get edition #2 to the press and keep up the exciting work, we need your help. We already have our content and designs ready to go, with edition #2 featuring interviews with President of Energy Watch Group, Hans-Josef Fell, Cédric Philibert of the International Energy Agency and Steve Sawyer from the Global Wind Energy Council. Now, we just need a little extra boost to get our magazine printed and distributed.
What do we need the money for?
Given the overwhelming feedback we received from edition #1, our goal is to print and distribute 2000 copies of the new edition of The Beam. In order to fulfill our goal, we need 5800€ for printing and 9000€ for distribution, making the total cost 14.800€. For edition #2, we will self-finance 4800€ and receive 5000€ from our partners (GridHub, Cleantechnica and Important Media). The remaining 5000€ we hope to raise through this campaign so The Beam #2 can come to fruition. Help us to increase awareness and make the world a little bit better every day.

Risks and challenges
We have been hard at work on our second edition! After weeks of researching, writing, interviewing and editing, our editorial is complete and we’ve designed over 80 pages. We’re almost ready to send edition #2 to print - it all hinges on the success of our campaign. As with any endeavor such as this, there is a risk our target won’t be hit, ceasing our efforts on The Beam to print, distribute and share the love on renewable energy. We also really appreciate contributions from our supporters, and since we’re all about sustainability, we also reserve the right to choose what we’d like to include in The Beam.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
