The creators of the award-winning documentaries M For Mississippi and We Juke Up in Here hope to return in 2013 with Moonshine & Mojo Hands, a new weekly web-TV series dedicated to the rude, rowdy – and often ridiculous – world of Mississippi blues. Ride shotgun with hosts Roger Stolle and Jeff Konkel as they travel the Delta’s back roads in search of juke joints, house parties, barbecue, moonshine and – of course – the men and women who keep this uniquely American music alive in the land of its birth.
With its heady mix of fascinating characters, hilarious situations, rustic settings and rousing musical performances, the series aims to appeal to both cult and mainstream fans of music, culture and history. Moonshine & Mojo Hands will combine the feel of the producers’ earlier films with that of television travelogues like American Pickers and No Reservations and web-only shows like Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.
By showcasing such a fascinating foreign land so close to home, the show's creators hope to inspire others to make their own road trips down Mississippi’s blue highways.
Moonshine & Mojo Hands is a joint production of Broke & Hungry Records and Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Art, two of the most trusted names in blues music today. The show's creators are responsible for some of the most celebrated blues films, recordings and events of the past decade. Their first collaborative effort, M for Mississippi racked up several major awards including a Blues Music Award for DVD of the Year in 2009. Their most recent joint production, We Juke Up in Here has been nominated for the same award. The production team also includes photographer/cinematographer Lou Bopp and the creative collective Tangent Mind, led by Jon Ryan.
With their proven track record of success, the project's creators are ideally suited to launch the first-ever reality show about blues music and the artists who create it.
Season One of Moonshine & Mojo Hands will consist of 10 episodes that will stream for FREE this fall at www.moonshineandmojohands.com. Each 12-minute episode will take viewers on a wild ride through the Mississippi Delta and Hill Country to meet many of the region's most fascinating characters in some truly unforgettable settings.
But in order to make Moonshine & Mojo Hands a reality, the producers need your help! Although the creative team has ample experience working with limited funds to create high-quality projects, producing a professional web series is - by its very nature - a costly venture. There are musicians and crews to pay; gas, hotel and location costs to cover; and a range of other expenses including graphic design, web development and marketing costs. With your help, the producers can make this first-of-its-kind project a reality.
