Oracle and tarot card decks have always fascinated me, and it's been a dream for many years to see a deck made with my artwork! Until recently I haven't been able to find a decent and affordable option for having the decks made myself, but I have now found someone to print the cards, boxes, and booklets.
This Kickstarter will help me to at least have a small initial run made. If it goes over, all the funds will be used to order more decks. I may add stretch goals if it goes way over, such as a bigger deck.
The decks will be standard tarot size but will contain 40 cards. Each card will have two meanings (if inverted) and the titles of the cards will make the meaning fairly obvious, but a booklet is enclosed as well.
Each deck comes packed in a paper box. The boxes will all be signed!
The system for the deck is based on the 21 major arcana of the traditional tarot, the four aces, the four queens, and eleven extra cards to compliment the 29 pulled from the tarot. Experienced tarot readers will immediately recognize some familiar characters (The Moon, The Magician), and will notice that The Devil has been replaced with Trickery. Some card titles have been changed a little bit to make them reflect the meaning of the card and the artwork better. Each card also has a keyword or phrase at the bottom to help beginners memorize the meanings of each card.

Breakdown of Costs
Having the decks themselves printed will be the most expensive part by far. The decks will cost me about $600 including shipping.
The booklets inside the boxes will cost a little more than $50.
The boxes will cost $300.
The rest of the money will go towards shipping and packaging the decks, as well as extras like velvet bags, the 10 card decks, print boxes, bar codes and more. I don't expect to make a profit from this, but I hope to have enough decks left over to continue selling them and make a profit from those decks.
I would also like to build a website for this deck, and will use some of the funds from this Kickstarter to register a domain and various other miscellaneous website-related expenses.
These are cards 51-60. These are ONLY included in the $45 decks!
Risks and challenges
I have never done something like this before, but I am determined to have this ready to take with me to DragonCon at the end of August. I've published a lot of other projects myself, though, and I am not new to the pitfalls of publishing and I won't have to learn anything new, so I am expecting this to go fairly smoothly with maybe a few bumps along the way!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
