Our Story So Far
The primary goal of Flickreel is to provide a pleasurable and entertaining experience which is highly accessible, always up-to-date with the latest film media and available free of charge. Video-based articles will be a key aspect of the publication, as will meaningful connections between content and other users.
Producing such a wealth of content - and in particular, video-based content - is time-consuming and costly. So we are seeking your support to help us maintain the publication in its first few months. This way, we will be able to deliver the type of online film publication which we have always wanted, but never been able to find.
We have a lot planned in the way of further improvements, features and content, but we would like to know what you want as well. We will involve you in the process and will take very seriously your feedback and suggestions to help shape the publication going forward. Early bird backers and those backing at higher levels will also gain the ability to suggest and vote on content which you would like us to produce, such as a video feature on a particular director, or studio, for example.
The team we have in place consists of a developer/designer, a film journalist, and a film editor. We also have relationships with other key talent such as developers, a motion effects artist and a sound designer.
There will be three core phases to making Flickreel a success:
The second phase concerns maintaining the publication. It will start during the first phase and continue after general release. The two main aspects of this will be general running costs such as hosting and further refinement of the publication in response to real-world use/feedback, and costs associated with content generation. The latter will total a minimum of £1000 per month. During this phase we aim to grow the readership of the publication to a critical mass, which will lead on to the third phase.
The third phase concerns revenue streams. We will integrate advertising alongside an optional paid-for membership system, which will remove ads for members and give them early access to any new features which are added to the publication. We are hoping to have achieved this final phase by the end of the year.
This Kickstarter is ultimately looking for your support to get us through the first two phases which will then naturally lead on to us being able to achieve the third phase and make the publication sustainable.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is getting the publication to work well across so many different platforms and devices. A lot of work has gone into this to date, but there is more to be done in order to fully optimise it. Working with people who have the right skills to achieve this is essential, but we feel confident we know who those people are.
Keeping the publication up-to-date and maintaining such a high level of quality is also going to be a challenge, but it will be a balance which should get easier as the product matures. A solid business plan is therefore paramount to success, but we are confident that our roadmap is well thought out and will succeed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
