About this project
We are just under two weeks from the premiere of SHANNON GILLEN + GUESTS' latest project 'A COLORED IMAGE OF THE SUN' . Please help us make our goal by January 13th.
SGG's A COLORED IMAGE OF THE SUN will premiere at Triskelion Arts in Brooklyn, New York and with the 92nd Street Y's Sundays at Three series in Manhattan, January 10-13, 2013. We hope to raise funds here on Kickstarter in direct support of the amazing dancers involved in this project.
What is this project about?
A COLORED IMAGE OF THE SUN unravels a world that looks at one’s assumption of self as it is challenged by the basic fear of non-existence or of disappearing into someone else, alongside the attraction and alarm of transformation. Through a series of personal and collective sequences, the work exposes the flimsy membrane between our will to live and our ability to sacrifice.
Performed in Shannon Gillen's “hard-driving and emotionally affecting” style, five performers reinterpret the classic rite of spring celebration, exploring folk-psychological landscapes with imagistic dream sequences, rigorous movement, and a cinematic score. Ultimately the rite of spring practice deteriorates and gives way to a spectacle of hope revealed though the simple pleasures of color, breath and wonder.
Who is involved?
Acclaimed dance artists Genna Baroni, Catherine Coury, Gabrielle Lamb, Amy Moore and Emily Terndrup have all been working with SGG on COLORED IMAGE since August. Their insights and commitment to this project have made it an amazing and explosive work. Every dollar raised here directly supports these artists.

Risks and challenges
Creating dance is a multifaceted commitment, of time, labor, passion, curiosity, endurance and dare I say it.... money.
SGG has been involved in the New York dance scene for some time and through the years we have become quite adept at handling the familiar setbacks and challenges that face all dance companies. By placing our focus on the creative process, we are able to efficiently work together to realize new projects. This commitment is ultimately what facilitates our connection to the dances we make and the community at large.
Looking forward to sharing this latest piece with you!
