The Story

Rupert and Riley wash up on a small island after their cruise ship sinks. 

A few items also wash up a little later, including a bubble gun, a scuba suit, and a small wooden boat.

With nothing to eat on the island, and his new fear of the water, Riley begins to think of Rupert as food. However, Rupert has a desire to live more than his hate for water, and being the intelligent cat that he is, he diverts Riley’s attention to his brilliant idea of catching fish. 

Riley now safe and dry in the small boat, Rupert will dive beneath the waves and catch the fish that picky Riley requests.

Good plan Rupert! Hopefully this will keep Riley happy! Unfortunately, both are so preoccupied they fail to see something even hungrier watching them…

Design

Control Rupert with the easy-to-use analog stick. The object of the game is to capture the fish that come as orders from Riley on the boat with your bubble gun and turn them in without losing all your air to move on to the next level.

However, along with fish that need to be captured there are also other challenges on each level. Rupert must keep up with Riley as he moves forward, but watch out for enemy fish!

Luckily, Rupert has rigged his bubble gun to fire pearls at the enemy fish as he collects Riley’s ever growing list of fish he wants. To make Rupert’s fishing task a bit easier he can capture bonus sea creatures. Each bonus creature has special abilities. For instance, the sea turtle regenerates your oxygen tank. 

This isn't your typical laid back fishing trip, no sir. Riley tends to get over zealous at times and his impatience makes him go faster, which makes it tough for Rupert to keep up.

You can also unlock mini-games by acquiring level points during the game. This is accomplished by killing enemies, shooting objects and other challenges in the level. After each level your score points are converted into level points, which can be seen on the map screen.

Mini-games are Riley's forte; he really enjoys playing games. If you succeed in winning the challenge you will acquire items specifically for Riley which will help Rupert n Riley during their adventure. For example, Riley's bone throw: once you unlock this you can tap Riley and he will throw bones to destroy obstacles out of Rupert's way; this also adds to your score points and achievements.

Designing the levels

Captain Crusty- concept of the first boss

Characters:

Rupert- The main playable character. Rupert is a curious lovable cat. He is always looking for ways to get back at Riley. Although he hates water he enjoys catching fish in his scuba suit.

Riley- is the energetic and playful dog. He loves sailing in the boat and can't wait to see what fish Rupert will bring up to him.  Riley enjoys all the fruits of Rupert's labor. 

Eppy The Seagull- He has come to enjoy the company of the cat and dog and at times he helps them out. However, not all the seagulls are as friendly.

 Boomer The Fish- Riley's favorite choice.

Ziggy The Eel- he is an enemy that makes a special appearance in some levels and also in some of the mini-games. Special ability- Electric zap .  Ziggy lost his tooth from a falling coconut. 

Features

  • Six themed Islands, Rupert and Riley travel the sea in search of fish. Each Island has 4 levels that progress to the boss of that Island. There are five unique bosses to fight and a final boss. 
  • Islands also have unique enemies
  • A look at our first boss. Island 1-Level 4- Pirate Lobster- Name- Captain Crusty: Special ability- Hook extend and coin toss Tactics- Avoid his hook and coins. 
  • Story: Captain Crusty found refuge in a sunken ship. There he protects his gold and has control of the other fish. He once had a crush on a beautiful maiden lobster, but his greed kept him from keeping her. Each Island has a continuous story line that is introduced at the beginning of each Island as a message in a bottle from a mysterious character.
  •  Each boss offers a reward in the form of bubble weapons! The bubble weapons are designed for each Island for unique game-play. For example, you can use the bubble bomb to destroy cavern walls. 
  • The game also offers mini-games for each Island. The first game is finding the buried bone, once you find it, Riley's bone throw is unlocked. You can now use his bone throw by tapping him to remove obstacles and kill enemies throughout each Island.
  • You can also collect luggage for Rupert and Riley's items and outfits

Paintings and Sketches 

Our Team

Studio head - James Richards is responsible for deadlines, meetings, advertising and the overall production of the game.

Creator and Game Designer - Charlene Singleton is the spearhead behind the operation of the game. She designed the concept of Rupert 'n' Riley and is responsible for each aspect of its development. She also works closely with each team member to keep the direction, balance, and feel of the game. In her spare time she enjoys gaming, cooking, camping, and k-dramas. 

Artist and Animator - Samuel Kuszynski is our talented artist. He is responsible for all the art and animations in the game. Sam has a background in composition painting, which lends to the unique colors and characters throughout the game. When he isn't working on the game, he enjoys painting and playing pool. 

Programmer - Caleb Martin is our awesome programmer. He brings life to the art, sound and ideas. He always finds a way to make it work. When he isn't working on the game, he enjoys riding his dirt bike.

Music and Sounds – Eric Cappello is responsible for sounds and music. He turns the level into a feeling, which for games is what words do for a story.

Marketing Director- Shawn McFadden is our marketing guy, he knows what needs to be known in all things social, advertising and anything in between. 

Web Designer - Micaiah Martin is responsible for the look and feel of our website. He is in the process of its creation and it will be up soon!

Be the first to help our young studio earn its wings.

We have been working very hard this past year in addition to working full-time jobs. We would love to make this our full-time gig, but for now we really just want to get this game off the ground. 

As it stands now, we have quite a bit done on the game. We have the first two islands, first boss, mini-game and all the menus done. We are currently working on Island 3.

This is where you come in. For the majority of this project we have used our own funds. However, with families, bills, and life issues, it gets tough.

First of all we would use $1500 to get the Unity pro license. This will enable us to realize all of our ideas without the restrictions of the personal edition. We will use the remaining funds to purchase licenses $300, rewards-to be determined, and updates on software-$300.

We are so very appreciative of this opportunity to allow our fans, friends and family to join us on this journey.

Risks and challenges

The biggest risk we face is the release date getting pushed back. This is true for most games because there's always the potential for something to go wrong.

We can't prevent this from happening, however we will always keep our backers in the loop if anything does arise and we will strive to stay on target to the very best of our ability.

Of course other things can go wrong, for example, if you lose a key team member for any number of reasons, in this case we would replace the member as quickly as possible, get them up to speed, and resume the development of the game.

We are committed to working through any challenge we are faced with because we are dedicated to this project. We have spent a lot of time and effort on the game, and will continue to do so.
