Hannah Hill | 'Apeiron' at Anderson Ranch
My name is Hannah Hill and I make large scale oil paintings on fine, translucent stretched fabric. You're reading this because I have been selected, as one of only two painters, to be an artist in residence at Anderson Ranch Art Center near Aspen, Colorado for three months in 2014.
I recently moved to NYC for the exposure and gallery scene. It is my goal to have a solo exhibition in one of my favorite galleries in the city. But before I can do that I will need to have a conclusive, cohesive exhibition to offer them. And that's where you come in! Due to residual student loans and high cost of living in NYC I cannot get to Colorado on my own.
Here is my proposal for my 3 months in CO:
Apeiron is an ancient and mostly lost metaphysical theory by the Greek philosopher Anaximander. The word itself means "the undefined infinite." I use this theory as a jumping off point to probe the different worlds that each of us, as individuals, create and live within; The outer physical world, and the inner recollected, created, and edited world of our memories.
I use my own memories to forge the paintings in this series, even if those memories are mostly lost, eroded or imaginary. The work will challenge my own reality, as well as the viewers,' by forcing sychronicity of the events and moments represented. I am utilizing themes of narrative and personal mythology to probe deeper into a subjection of truth to conception within this series. I am proposing no less than 20 paintings, composed on primed, thin cotton and stretched on collapsable stretchers.
I'm on Kickstarter to raise $2,500 that I need to get myself and my work to and from Anderson Ranch in Colorado. This will cover:
$1,500 in residency fees
$600 for travel to Snowmass Village, CO from NYC and back.
$400 to ship my (huge, heavy) paintings back to NYC after the residency.
$500 for supplies. Oil paint and matte medium can be expensive in large quantities, as can yards upon yards of fabric. This money will also be used to contract a builder for the collapsable stretchers once the paintings are complete.
In return you, my dear dear sponsors, get some amazing deals on my artwork. These rewards include:
-limited edition postcard versions of my paintings and handwritten thank you notes
- archival 5x7" prints of the paintings you see above
- original and commissioned sumi ink drawings and oil paintings
- an ORIGINAL work of art from the Apeiron series to be made with you in mind while in Colorado.
- a limited edition hard back book showcasing paintings from my last two solo shows (Decoration Day and Vision & Omen). and of course, my undying gratitude and maybe my firstborn.

Risks and challenges
After this painting project is funded, a realistic risk is that I will run out of usable funds to ship out rewards and produce the limited edition book. That is why, in reality, I need to raise at least $3,000 to do this project safely. Since kickstarter is an all or nothing system- I've set the goal lower, to $2,500.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
