Update #6

My Case is Your Case

After a fair amount of interest in a case, I put in some good time developing one. Before I pull the trigger and order a whole bunch, I want to get an idea of how many people will be interested in getting one. I know a lot of you will make your own case, but I'd like to provide an orderable option. My goal has been to keep the price down but as I was aware, a case is a decent cost adder to the design. So, the case will be made of black plastic. It'll be rectangular with white silkscreen. It's nothing crazy fancy but it'll be a decent box to hold the synth and keep it safe. I think it's going to look better than laser cut acrylic and be substantially cheaper than aluminum. The price will be $50 plus shipping. So, if you're interested in the case, post a comment, send me a message here, on the blog, or shoot me an email. I don't have pictures of this exact case at the moment because it's going to be specifically engineered once I commit to the order. I will have some pictures next week of some similar sample cases from the company that will make it, Envision Plastics. So, let me know what you think.

After looking over the Envision website, I think I'll have to opt out of a case and just build my own.

I plan to use a different layout for the front panel for the Rockit I'm going to build, so I will probably be using a different case. I'll post the design on the forum when I get it sorted though (I'll have to wait until I get the PCB though).

I agree with teh statement about conformity, but I do like seeing the board itself, maybe envision with a clear top? Mockups?

A sample pic of the case would be helpful in making the decision, but since that's not possible at the moment--what you described sounds like it would be very aesthetically pleasing.

I'm thinking that there could be a couple of cases. This is just the beginning. It's one of the easiest ways for me to provide an option for people in the short term. I think this case will be one of the uu cases. They're shipping me a sample of somebody else's left over cases. It should be here early next week.

I think a colourful (I'm thinking perhaps grassy green), reasonably sturdy and well thought out Envision enclosure can be very interesting just because it is not plexi nor alu like the VacoLoco or Mutable Instruments enclosures. Not that the later are bad or ugly, it is just that I think conformity is a plague...

I'm not super picky about the case. Even so, if there were two types available, I'd likely pay extra for something really cool. I'm not saying that I don't think the Envision stuff is cool- I just had a hard time getting much of a direction from their site since they show so many styles. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the sample cases. I also like both Shruthi-style acrylic and aluminum..

Want a case but acrylic, something nice like the wtpa?2/shruthi. The plastic supplier's stuff looks like very old paia hammond case effects, not interested in a cheap case at all. $100 case is fine, or, do a ponoko design and let us pay for it.

      Hi

Thanks for all the work you're putting in on this, Matt. We really appreciate it!

I had a quick look at the Envision site - is there any particular style you can point us at as being similar to what you're going for?

Take care & all the best,
