About this project
Carry everything with JULY NINE: Rolled up in its leather handle-ready to expand into a spacious reusable bag whenever you need it.
The July Nine reusable bag carries the nickname"sushi sack" from my girlfriend because of it's unique roll up design. Made in America from strong rip stop nylon and vegetable tanned leather. Two sizes available, 18" and 24" across, because one size does not fit all.
Thank you very much for checking out our project. Please feel free to browse the information below and ask any questions you may have. I'd be happy to answer them in the FAQ at the bottom of the page.
My hometown recently passed a ban on plastic and paper retail bags in an effort to curb the single use waste in our city. I received several requests from people to design a reusable bag, but I did not feel all that inspired. Then I found myself without a bag, asking my girlfriend to carry the socks I just bought in her purse (A July Nine Rainproof bag of course). So I started thinking about a bag that rolled up into it's handle, eliminating the need for stuff sacks and something that reflects a modern style. I worked late into the night and produced a few working prototypes of the clever little bag you see today.
Since then, I have scrutinized over several dozen material samples, thread types and seam options. I've given sample bags to friends and family to test on their vacations and day to day routines from California to France. And after listening to their feedback and confirming with suppliers and manufacturing, I'm ready to make this project a reality.
Two sizes are available: 18" and 24" in all the color options. To increase the weight you can carry and make it easier to clean, all leather handles will be nylon backed.
Choose from 11 different colors to fit your mood, style or daily needs. (Color selection and custom text will be requested at the end of the funding period through the kickstarter survey system)
Claim this bag in a personal way by laser burning up to 20 characters on the leather handle where the MADE IN AMERICA is located. I've used laser burning on my designs since day one and wanted to extend the technology and creative option to you.
All handles are now nylon backed for strength and durability.
Freebies with every order because of 300% funding.

Shipping costs can be a real bummer for the buyer and a small business. To lessen this feeling I selected an economic but timely method for packaging and shipping, then split the cost with you. I'm not making money off shipping and you are not being overcharged at checkout. Win win!
How to fold the bag
Thank you very, very much for checking out this project. It means a lot that people take the time to watch the video, look through the pictures and share it with your friends. It's encouraging to see the view counts grow and likes on facebook increase. I hope you enjoy July Nine!
Two stretch goals have already been added to the project since reaching 100% funding.
250% Funding: All handles will now be backed by nylon. This will increase the strength and life span of the bag.
300% Freebies will be included in every order now!
With many requests for a brown color, I have decided to release it as a stretch goal. If/when we reach $40,000 backing, BROWN will be a color option. I checked with my suppliers and manufacturing to insure no delays in production from this update. So share this project with your friends and make the brown color a reality!
Risks and challenges
With any large project there is the chance that a small error can cause a set back. To lessen the likelihood of this I have only selected material suppliers and manufactures that can handle large volume orders. From ordering 100 yard rolls of material to batch printing of shipping labels and pre-meetings with the post office, I'm confident that this project will be successful.
(I've even collected take out menus for everyone attending the packing party)
After the project is fully funded, I will request the color and custom message from you through the kickstarter survey.
Select the reward you would like, and enter the total amount for the multiple bags.
i.e. 5bags x $18 = $90 At the end of the funding period I will send out a survey to ask about color choice and you can then state that you would like 5 bags for your $90 pledge.
This is updated under "Manage Pledge" on your account

I load tested the smaller bag and was able to place 45lb in it and then ran out of room. (24lb sand bag and 20, 16.9 oz water bottles)
The larger bag will take a little more weight because of its nylon backed handle.
For volume reference: the 18" bag will fit 21 of the 16.9 oz water bottles. This only weighs in at around 22lb.
