Here's the audio version of the pitch:
- What are you trying to do? - Create an original 22 episode first season of a scripted comedic transmedia web series that caters to what we love: Vegas + geek culture.
- How will you do it? - We have a fantastic team of creative professionals here in Vegas who are excited to help this story come to life.
- How will the funds be used? - While most people are donating their time and resources there are some things we simply can't get for free. Money will be used exclusively for production costs including: insurance, location fees, costuming our heroes, production design, live set and studio costs, post-production editing, sound, and catering.
- What are your qualifications to complete this project? - My name is Jillian Austin. I have a Bachelor's degree in Film and Video. I currently work as a Marketing Manager for a Restaurant and Nightlife group in Las Vegas and run Murder Mitten which is a collective comprised of positive professional filmmakers, actors, and creative types who enjoy the art of digital storytelling.
- Who is on the team? - See below! So many skilled professionals and all around great people.
- How far along is the project? - We have the entire first season outlined and plotted out as well as a story bible. We have written 25% of the episodes and signed on 90% of our show cast. We are at the end of the development phase and as soon as we get funded we'll move right into costume and prop production. Once we line that up we'll start production!
What is Secret Identity Show?
Secret Identity Show is a comedic transmedia web series that started out with a simple idea: What if Batman, Superman, and Spider-man shared an apartment in Las Vegas, NV? But what if they weren't ACTUALLY the superheroes? What if they were simply street performers who had the characteristics of these iconic characters and they were, in a way, a parody?
A mix of comedy and mystery - Secret Identity Show documents the misadventures of three idealistic roommates, Kal, Fred, and Wayne as they decide to impersonate Superman, Spider-man, and Batman respectively on the strip and on the streets of downtown Las Vegas for money, vengeance, and a way to escape boredom.
We have some very UNIQUE rewards so be sure to check them out on the side of the screen.
Why are we doing this?
Simon Sinek said in one of our favorite TEDx talks of all time, "people don't buy what you do they buy why you do it". So here is our WHY.
Murder Mitten is a multimedia production collective founded by Jillian Austin and Cori Fite. A small group of creative people from Michigan making things happen in Las Vegas! Our goal is to make compelling, entertaining, and original digital content for the web while having an AMAZING time. We are passionate filmmakers, actors, and writers who choose to spend our free time, outside of our day and night jobs, to tell stories that MOVE people.
Inspired by the transmedia stories of Pemberly Digital "The Lizzie Bennett Diaries" and "Emma Approved" we decided to tell our story across platforms and create an interactive web series experience around what we enjoy.
We are HUGE pop culture nerds. We geek out over everything from Doctor Who to the age old debate of which submariner is better - Namor or Aquaman? We also know what it feels like to want to make a difference in the world and wanted to create a story about characters that would not only resonate with us but people who share our interests!
After making a few comedic shorts around town our unique sense of comedy has garnered us attention for writing, costuming, and having a knack for being able to attract very talented and amazing actors and crew. You can check out our shorts below. Believe it or not, each of them were shot and edited in less than 48 hours!!
While we can tell a great story we could stand to increase our production value a bit so we are taking to Kickstarter. We love living in Las Vegas and we want to share what that’s like with the rest of the world. So we’re trying to work with as many local businesses and artists as we can. With the help of Maximum Comics, MG Studio, Persist Films, Indie Film Factory, friends, family, and others we are ready to bring our vision to life.
Why should you support this project?
We need your help. We are a small American team of digital storytellers who are trying to take this idea of making funny and entertaining internet videos from being a hobby to a career. By supporting us you help us move one step closer to achieving our dream while also allowing us to bring great stories and characters, that we are sure you'll love, to life!
We are truly passionate about our story. While we do have a lot of community support there are a lot of things we will not be able to afford without a budget. The money we raise will go to: renting equipment, building high quality, post production, fx, costumes and props, and securing amazing locations for our full first season, along with money to send out really sweet rewards to you our backers.
First thing we'll get is proper costumes though because umm...just look below. It's just sad.
We're pretty positive that you'll love our characters so, during our Kickstarter we are going to release a few in-character videos to bring you into the world so you can have a chance to try us on for size. It will serve as a prequel to the series!
While we still have quite a few roles left to cast, we are very proud to have found a great core group of actors to play our characters.

It's a story told through a mockumentary style with video diaries, blogs, cinematic sketches, viral videos, and it’s supported by the character’s social media accounts because we want the characters to feel real.
The goal is to make a show that's very much like The Office or Modern Family for an online audience that geeks out about nerd culture and superheroes as much as we do!
Star Costumes and Theatrical Supply for letting us borrow these costumes for our teaser.
Risks and challenges
Potential obstacles facing production are scheduling of actors and crew for shoots (it's Vegas so people's day jobs take place 24/7) and the ability of our small crew to accomplish costuming, prop fabrication, and set design that would have more money and people on a non-independent production.
Considering most of our projects we've done in about 48 hours we are going to try and reduce our scheduling to a few days out of the month so that our busy crew and cast can dedicate a chunk of time to shooting the season's episodes in bulk.
Post-production line items in our budget have been reduced, in order to keep our budget low, and this may affect our launch date as we will be dependent on the kindness of editors and sound mixers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
