Wildflower Series is a line of attractive women's fashion footwear made in the U.S. that is designed to allow natural alignment of the body.
What is so special about our sandals?
It isn't what our sandals do that make them special, it's what they don't do. All our products have strict requirements. 1.They don't alter the natural alignment of the body by elevating the heel. 2.They don't restrict movement of the feet. 3.They don't crowd the toes into an unnatural space. 4. They don't add unnecessary weight to your feet. In other words, they allow your feet to do their job.
Most women agree that there is just something about high heels that makes them feel attractive. The only problem is the pain that accompanies these shoes. A little pain is a small price to pay to feel attractive right? Actually, it is a a pretty steep price. That nagging pain in your feet or back is more than just a small side effect of wearing heeled shoes. It is your body trying to tell you that something is wrong. It could be telling you that you are getting a bunion, plantar fasciitis, or even something more series such as joint degeneration, compressed spinal discs or pelvic floor disorder. That sexy shoe could be slowly crippling you.
What about shoes with only a small heel?
You may be thinking that this doesn't apply to you since you rarely wear high heels. Most of your shoes have only a small heel of one or two inches. Because the length of the foot is small compared to the overall height of the body, an inch or two of elevation of the heel will change your posture dramatically.
What makes them any different from other flats?
It's true that flats are much better than high heels but there are still some key differences to be aware of. First of all, many flats are not really flat. The Wildflower Series is a true zero drop shoe. Like most contemporary footwear, flats often have inflexible soles or do not allow enough room for the toes. Because some flats are not secure to the foot it can cause an unnatural gait and a clenching effect on the toes. Excess muscle tension can cause pain and can contribute to other aliments. All our shoes are secure and stay on well.
There is a type of bird that lays eggs with blue speckles. Scientists have discovered that the birds favored the eggs that have more blue colors in them. They made an artificial egg with extra blue hues and placed it in the nest. When the birds discovered the blue eggs, they not only favored the blue egg but they neglected their natural eggs. Deirdre Barrett Ph.D. called this phenomenon "supernormal stimulus".
From an evolutionary perspective, certain attributes have become attractive to us as humans. There are body shapes and movements that are inherently feminine or masculine. Some scientists have theorized that high heels highly exaggerate some of the most feminine characteristics. This is a form of supernormal stimulus and we have been exposed to it so much that we have come to prefer exaggerated feminine qualities over the natural. Unfortunately, altering the natural gait and posture of women is taking its toll. We believe that eventually the pendulum will swing back via natural selection since those who choose less obtrusive footwear will have better body mechanics. Our goal is to design footwear that accentuates the natural feminine beauty of the foot.
* Please note that final designs may vary slightly from pictured prototypes.
What about support?
One response we've heard from women is that they can't wear flats because they don't offer enough support. In our culture, we feel that our feet are in constant need of support and most of us have been wearing very supportive shoes all our lives. Imagine wearing a cast on your arm for most of your life. When the cast gets removed, your arm is likely going to be weak and will ache when you try to use the atrophied muscles. When the foot is constantly in a bent position (ie. wearing any shoe with a positive heel) some muscles in the foot and arch become shortened. Since they are in a constant shortened state, the fibers become tighter to keep it that way. When the "supportive" shoe is removed, the muscles are stretched back to where they should be. They aren't used to this and it causes pain. The good news is that with patience and some work this can be corrected. Body tissue is very dynamic and can change with different loads.
Will these shoes fix my posture?
You are the only one that can fix your posture. There are many factors that contribute to postural and alignment problems. Naturally Aligned footwear simply eliminates some of those factors. Your feet are the base of your posture so they are a great place to start!
Use of Funds
We have a basic sandal operation up and running. We just need a little bit of help to allow us to manufacture a new line. Our funding goal is set to help us take the next step. If we exceed our funding goal we can offer additional products including new colors, upper materials and designs. We can also purchase additional machinery which will get the rewards out the door more quickly. Below are some specifics on funding use.
1. We need to purchase inventory. Specifically, we need sole rubber, upper materials such as lace, webbing, thread, etc., and components such as buckles, hardware, and adhesives.
2. When we begin to manufacture the Wildflower Series we will need to expand our workshop. We will need a larger space and some equipment such as work benches, cutting surfaces, organization bins, etc.
3. Postage and shipping materials.
When the campaign successfully finishes, our rewards will ship approximately on the following timeline:
ONE WEEK: t-shirts
TWO TO THREE WEEKS: Anklets & Stickers
THREE TO FOUR WEEKS: Unshoes Wokova Feather Sandals
FIVE TO SEVEN WEEKS: Aspen, Laurel, and Comfrey Sandals

Risks and challenges
We have been producing minimalist footwear for over three years. We've seen the challenges that come from growth so we have a better idea of what to expect and how to solve problems that may arise.
All our products are manufactured in-house so we don't have to rely on manufacturers outside of the country. This, however, comes with its own set of challenges. In the last few years of manufacturing minimalist sport sandals we have experienced set backs in our schedule due to supplier delays, inventory issues, equipment malfunction, proper training, and other unexpected setbacks. We know that we need to keep these factors in mind as we set the estimated delivery dates.
Some of the sandals in our Wildflower Series are in testing phase so we understand that some design elements may change if we find that the shoe doesn't perform to our standards. This means that materials and processes may change during the course of the project. We are confident that we can work through these issues but it may cause delays.
