Have you ever wished you could go back and correct a mistake you made or change an important decision? Can you go back in time and change the future? What are the consequences of trying to change history, whether it's as small as the history of your own life or as grand as preventing the assassination of President Lincoln?
Plenty of classic literature and cinema has explored this concept, and no one ever comes up with quite the same answer. Time And Again deals with a guy who has a very microscopic vision for his time travel aspirations... he just wants to find a girl.
This is a "beautiful, simple script with some great characters and a very haunting message... and you do some very lovely things with your story." - Chelsea Mize, Script Quack.
Originally conceived as a "Twilight Zone" episode, Time And Again is a 30 minute short that will be shot as stills in a studio and then mated to scenes and backgrounds with Photoshop. If you're familiar with the "Twilight Zone" series, you know that there's always a surprise twist at the end. Time And Again actually has two.
Risks and challenges
Working with a group of student actors might risk some unpolished performances, but by pulling the best stills from the recorded video, we will collect the best emotional expressions and postures from the cast and eliminate any awkwardness and avoid retakes.
This film will be shot March 21 - 23 of 2014 at the Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center, University of Hartford. We'll need several hours to set up and take down the props and equipment, so having the studio for the three day weekend means we can leave it up Friday and Saturday night to save a lot of time and effort.
Another crucial aspect of this film is the logistics of getting all the equipment and props and cast and crew all together in the studio at the same time. There again a three day window gives us lots of wiggle room. Having the use of university facilities involves some costs in the form of donations to the Theater Department as well as transportation costs for the materials. And some of the props need to be purchased or rented. In addition we need to pay the composer to create the original score and rent a theater for the World Premiere.
We also must raise funding for film festival submissions. Each festival has between a $30-60 application fee plus transportation and lodging costs. We intend to apply to as many local and regional festivals as possible and some major ones if well received.
