We are so excited and grateful for the support we have received so far. As supporters have come onboard from home and around the world, it has quickly become clear that the Former County is quite a lot bigger than we thought. Thank you!
The expenses of launching this CD are many, over and above our initial modest goal for this kickstarter. Thanks to your pledges and social media sharing, it looks like we may reach our goal, and perhaps more - enough to cover the costs of the project and ensure a successful launch.
Our good friends over at the Hugo Award Winning podcast StarShipSofa, Tales to Terrify, and the District of Wonders podcast network have just come onboard as absolutely amazing supporters of David and this project. To thank them, we have added some stretch goals and rewards. All funds raised in excess of our $1,000.00CDN will go towards the production, promotion and launch of "Songs from the Former County".
Each and every donation is very important to the successful completion of this album, and we thank you so much for your support.
STRETCH GOALS ADDED
All previously published rewards will be honoured, and if we reach total pledges in the amounts below, David will create the following:
- #1 $1,500.00 - David will write and record a new original song especially for the StarShipSofa podcast
- #2 $1,750.00 - David will write and record a new original song especially for the Tales to Terrify podcast
- #3 $2,000.00 - David will write and record a new original song especially for the whole District of Wonders podcast network
What is "Songs from the Former County"?
"Songs from the Former County" is David Bradshaw's second CD, and it's almost ready to be released! David has recorded eleven terrific original tunes, and special guest musicians Carmel Mikol, Willie Stratton, Wanda Rose Milne, Dan MacCormack (Grassmarket) and Grant Mitchell have lent their considerable talents to the songs. The CD artwork is done, the band is practiced up for the launch... All that's left to do is the mastering and reproduction. We're so close, but yet so far.
That's why we're asking for a little help from you. Your pledge will help get this CD to the presses and into the world. If we can raise $1000 thanks to help from friends and supporters like you through this kickstarter, that will be absolutely fantastic. If we raise more, that will be even better - and we will be able to add more benefits and rewards to supporters and audiences. All of the funds raised will go towards the production and launch of the CD. A $20 pledge (or $25 outside of Canada) is a great way to pre-order and get us closer to our kickstarter goal, and we tried to present some great rewards at the other pledge levels for you to consider as well. Please pledge now, and tell your friends.
From the start, this project has been all about friends and neighbours coming together to make the music happen. Whether you are around the corner or across the world, I want to thank you so much for considering pitching in to help the final stages of production for "Songs from the Former County". The music wouldn't be there without you.
Here's a tune from the CD for you to enjoy. It's called "House Cleaning Blues". Thanks again for coming by and showing your support.
And here is "Tau Ceti Radio", a song David wrote for the StarShipSofa podcast to help promote their anthology, StarShipSofa Stories: Volume 2. (Video by Dee Cuniffe)

Risks and challenges
If we are successful in raising the funds to master and reproduce "Songs from the Former County", that's when the fun really begins! We are fortunate to be working with a terrific graphic artist, Ms. Jay Rawding, and we're really looking forward to seeing the names of our supporters and song sponsors added to the CD cover art. We're hoping there won't be any delays around that part of the project, though we will have to communicate with all of our generous sponsors about the details of their acknowledgement and communicate those details to Jay. She's someone we have a solid working relationship and lots of experience with, and if there are unavoidable delays we will be sure to communicate with our backers so that everyone is in the loop.
Then it will be time for reproduction. We're working with the same company we used for "No Place", and they are extremely reputable. Should there be delays in production or shipping, we will keep our backers informed.
If we are fortunate enough to get backers at the House Concert or Original Song by David levels, we will make every effort to work with those backers to ensure the mutually satisfactory delivery of their rewards.
Unfortunately, David can only offer the live House Concert reward within Halifax or surrounding areas. David can be hired privately to perform house concerts outside of the Halifax region. Please email email@example.com if you would like more information.
We're deeply committed to launching "Tales from the Former County" this spring, and like I said - we're almost there! The recording and mixing are done, the CD art is ready, and we're already planning a splashy launch party. We're going to make this happen. That said, if by some incredible turn of fate the project cannot be completed, we promise to get in touch with each and every supporter to make sure you receive a full refund or other mutually satisfactory recompense.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We are new to Kickstarter, and have just realized that there may be a challenge to backers outside of Canada completing pledges at the $20 and $50 level because of the way we set it up. International supporters, please consider the $25 and $55 levels instead - no additional shipping charges.
If you have any questions at all, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you again for your support!
