I created this Kickstarter campaign to publish my 2nd book, Coming Into Focus: Another Collection of Stories. This new book features 6 new tales of all-out action, intrigue, suspense and drama.
Falling Into Place: A Collection of Short Stories, my first published book and successful Kickstarter campaign, was wonderfully received, having garnered a multitude of five-star reviews on Amazon.com as well as accolades from a variety of independent reviewers. Everyone who's read it has nothing but positive things to say about the characters and stories.
Falling Into Place (if you haven't read it, you should!) seemed like 5 separate stories involving various dark and twisted characters until you got to the fifth and final tale. In "More Than A Feeling," the readers discovered all the stories took place in the same universe, that they were all connected. Much like the Marvel Universe or DC Universe, my stories and characters all live on a shared Earth. When I was a teenager I decided that my "comic book company" would be named Infinity Press, so I've always called my inter-connected stories "The Infinite-verse."
As a way of presenting my universe, I used the first book to introduce the evil of the Infinite-verse, the darkness or the villainy, if you will. Readers met a psychopathic billionaire who "collected" exceptional women, learned the New York City mob was infested with Hell-spawn, discovered that same city is over run with vampires under the rule of a vile creature called Mikhail, were shown how Earth is under attack by over 1 million inter-dimensional psychic symbiotes who live inside our heads and feed on the negative emotions of humanity and finally, they uncovered the clandestine government agency called the NDSA (National Defense Support Administration) who stage phony "superhero battles" to distract from their covert, illegal activities around the globe.
Coming Into Focus introduces the protagonists, the various forces that will battle the evil. The "good guys," so to speak. These are the most reluctant of heroes, fighting the good fight out of necessity instead of altruism. Throughout these stories you will meet original and never before seen characters who will display friendship, courage, fortitude and determination the likes of which you've never encountered. But, of course, with each new story, the ante is upped, the evil becomes greater and the odds of our "good guys" winning, let alone surviving, become smaller and smaller.
Come along for the ride with 6 captivating stories. 3 are continuations from tales published in Falling Into Place while the other 3 are completely brand new with never before seen characters and storylines. But don't worry, you can enjoy all of them without having read the first book. (If you want to read the 1st book, some of my donation rewards include either the e-book or the paperback or you can simply purchase it on any book selling website.)
Each one of these stories will show you an aspect of the human experience most people never see: imperfect and troubled people, put in unimaginable situations, struggling to do what's right while helping defeat the evil of their world. As always, they come with twists, turns and unexpected shocks.
I've been told my stories remind people of The Twilight Zone, Amazing Stories or The Outer Limits. I take that as high praise and I know you will enjoy these original tales.
Coming Into Focus is written. Once this Kickstarter is finished (and hopefully successful) it will be published at 6 X 9, putting it at approximately 380 pages with a word count just slightly over 111,000. That's a lot of entertainment for a small donation!
I was fortunate to have some truly talented and remarkable artists do an illustration for each story including Kim DeMulder (Marvel/DC Comics), Fernando Ruiz (Archie, Die Kitty Die), Pat Olliffe (Spider-Man, Barb Wire, Rough Riders), Joe Mondin (Red Eye Comics), Bella Rachlin (The Accelerators, Agents fo Pact) and Dillon Snook. Prints of these phenomenal works will be offered as prizes for donations. The original artwork from Fernando, Kim, Pat, Bella and Craig will also be available. (Some of them autographed.) You can see the work below.
I learned a lot in my previous campaign and now know how to utilize every penny raised to self-publish this book. That will include editing, layout, design, publishing, marketing and distribution as well as payment for the illustrations and fulfilling the Kickstarter rewards in a timely and efficient manner. I know it's important keep those Kickstarter promises! :)
Below are the synopsis' for each story with the accompanying illustration.
Only Skin Deep
On the surface, the story of Brandy Cary is a familiar one: a teenage runaway who ends up in New York City and gets involved with the very worst kind of people, including a vicious pimp named Hector Guerrero. When a ruthless enforcer for the Manelli Crime Family decides to take her as his own, Brandy's life devolves into a quagmire of drugs, abuse and torture. Miraculously, she's saved, only to find herself haunted by her past as she goes through withdrawal in the care of a killer for hire who is helping her for reasons of his own. Can this troubled girl find the courage to confront the past and forge her destiny in this perilous and deadly new life?
In autumn of 1979, Cris Subrizi, Mike Rocco and Steve Youngblood are the very best of friends, spending their time talking about girls, Star Wars, comic books and exploring the wooded areas deep within Forest Park. When they discover a large, gaping crater deep in the woods, they dub it The Prometheus Pit and call the surrounding area, Sanctuary. The thirteen year old boys spend everyday in their new hangout, crafting elaborate role playing games featuring their favorite superheroes. When three girls from their class take an interest in seeing Sanctuary, the boys are delighted but, on the day they bring the girls to see it, they discover a strange metallic object buried deep in the soil. This object will change all of their lives forever, taking them places they never dreamed existed and forcing them to rely on their friendship to survive.

Even worse, the same vicious monster responsible has now set his sights on her. She knows even if she manages to destroy the vampire lord, she still has to deal with hordes of his followers, both human and creatures of the night. Dr. Miller engineers a risky plan to overcome both the sire and his minions but if she's miscalculated in the slightest, it means either a gruesome death or being turned into an undead monster herself.
The Sound of Silence
Andrea Bacchi never had it easy growing up on Long Island, losing her mother in a car accident when she was 10, watching her father drown his misery in alcohol and turning to the bottle herself at an early age. No longer able to deal with her guilt after driving drunk, causing a wreck and killing her 10 year old daughter, Christina, the despondent woman just wants to die. You Have To Believe
New Orleans Police Detective Devon Delacourt has a problem, multiple problems actually. After saving a young college student from a bizarre cult ritual in City Park, by shooting the man about to stab her, the officer is placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. Since the incident, Delacourt has suffered debilitating seizures which increasingly render him physically paralyzed. On top of that, he's felt a constant anxiety, a restlessness that makes him doubt everything he knows, everything he believes in. When a strange series of events brings him to the home of Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau, she tells him what's causing his illness. "You were exposed to eldritch energy in City Park and now you're addicted to magic." she explains. Despite his incredulousness, he agrees to take part in group therapy with other addicts. Once he enters that session, Devon Delacourt has passed the point of no return and his life is turned upside down. The detective's only chance to make it through is to believe...in his addiction, in his fellow addicts and in himself.

Risks and challenges
With all the tragedy and heartache in the world, I was torn about beginning a Kickstarter right now. I decided to go through with it and thought of a way to have a positive impact on all the terrible circumstances happening to so many good people. I promise that any money pledged over my goal will be donated to the Puerto Rico hurricane relief fund to help the remarkable people of that wonderful island.
Otherwise, the greatest challenge is knowing my time is limited. Having suffered permanent nerve damage in my right arm 7 years ago, I've had to face the prospect of eventually losing all feeling in that extremity. My plan is to complete 2 more books of stories and then a full length novel where all my characters unite in final battle with the forces of evil I've unleashed on my universe. My dream is to finish telling my story before I lose the use of my arm. If I can do that, I will feel like I've made my dreams come true.
Thanks to everyone for checking out my Kickstarter campaign and to anyone who decides to donate to help get this book published. I appreciate all of you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
