Just when you thought the world had seen enough deluded people in Donald Trump, Kim Jong Un, Teresa May, Piers Morgan and Katie Hopkins, along came a rock band that outstripped them all – Dirty Tuppence.
Ladies & Gentlemen ...... welcome to the show !!!!
Below is hopefully all the information you will need to decide whether you think it is worth pledging some of your hard earned income towards helping us make what promises to be a comedy horror classic !!!
Among the perks you can claim are time with some of the main stars ... 2006 Big Brother winner Pete Bennett, internationally renowned fetish model and live performer Dani Divine, UK TV legend Joe Pasquale ... and the movie's 6' 6" Great Dane - Otis. Backers of this Kickstarter can star in the film, hang out on set, become an Associate Producer or attend the World Premiere by donating various amounts. What’s more Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Mila Kunis, Jim Carrey, Cameron Diaz, Jared Leto and Helena Bonham-Carter are all encouraged to contribute to the cause in their own private funding opportunity.
Legendary drummer "Egg" (AKA Percy Gash-Hound) is having to start his life afresh due to a very indelicate accident and it's highly publicised aftermath ... which saw him kicked out of the multi-million selling rock band Bad Penny, and also confined to a wheelchair.
After a year of extravagance and excess Egg has now spent all of his £3M fortune and needs a new income. So he teams up with his voluptuous new carer Brody (who also happens to be a mean bassist), and his vertically challenged twin brother Maynard (on guitar) ... and together they begin auditioning for a charismatic lead singer for their new band Dirty Tuppence (a Bad Penny tribute act - or is it vice versa?). Although how Egg plans to drum when he can't move his legs is something he is yet to work out !
But ... what should be a very straight forward process is thrown a huge curve ball by the human element.
Especially when you add people such as the useless serial killer Derek Pendulous, bickering and inept Private Investigators Jack Fire & Emily Brimstone, Otis the talking Great Dane, Joe Pascale, , 'Axl Rose' from genuine tribute band Guns 2 Roses, Fizzy Pop the high kicking mystical vocalist, Ulysses Twist and his weird clipboard fetish, and the crazy all-girl rock band Clitosaurus Rex.
"Dirty Tuppence - The Movie" is a topsy-turvy roller-coaster of a movie injected with a quirkiness and peculiarity that only a writer/director/actor like Warren Speed (who cites his two main influences as Charlie Chaplin and Rob Zombie) could imagine - and then bring to life.
In a nutshell we are hoping to raise enough money to be able to fund the whole production of "Dirty Tuppence" - which is creating a lot of buzz in certain important circles.
Possibly the most proof we have that this movie will succeed is that we have already been offered a worldwide DVD distribution deal by an established North American company (on the strength of Warren's background and and the "Dirty Tuppence" movie synopsis alone). The production company responsible for this movie (Taxi For Otis Productions) will not however, sign a distribution contract until the finished edit has been shown to a number of other major distributors. And our hope is that this movie will eventually receive a cinema release (as well as DVD and various online platforms).
The main shoot locations for "Dirty Tuppence" will be shared between central London and the North East of England (where the production company is based). And depending on the time needed to create the special effects ... the team hope to begin the main shoot in February 2018.
The film crew will not be overly large as the producers know from working on previous movies (as well as various short films and music videos) exactly which crew roles need to be filled to capture the imagination of co-directors Warren Speed & Steve O'Brien, on screen. The cameras used for the shoot will have 4k resolution, and there is already a post production team confirmed to cover the editing, sound mixing and colour grade.
Besides co-directing, Warren is also a co-producer and plays a lead acting role himself ... yes, this man is multi-talented but he has proved time and time again over the past twenty years that he has the abiity to almost run large productions single-handedly. For "Dirty Tuppence" though Warren is well aware of the need for a tight professional crew and a co-producer who can deal with everything that needs to happen during the actual filming period (when Warren will be locked into directing and acting).
Steve O'Brien is co-producing/directing "Dirty Tuppence", and Warren first worked with Steve in 2009 when they made "Zombie Women of Satan 1" together. They have since worked alongside each other a number of times and their excellent working relationship will ensure a high quality movie is eventually delivered.
(Steve O'Brien was Producer and Cinematographer on "Vampires")
The SFX team is headed by the very experienced pair of Mike Peel and Mark Danbury (who between them have TV and movie credits including The League of Gentlemen, V For Vendetta and Casino Royale), both of whom Warren knows well, and both of whom have literally decades of experience each creating fabulously messy gore creations.
"Dirty Tuppence"'s musical score will be composed by the up and coming and very highly rated Gav Cantrell (from Brighton) - whose carnival-esque eerie score for Warren's third movie "Coulrophobia" received glowing feedback and input from no less than the renowned Hollywood film music producer Graham Walker (Sleepy Hollow, The Talented Mr.Ripley, and Planet 51, and who often works closely with Danny Elfman). Graham has since signed Gav to his own company - proof of the high regard Gav is held in.
In addition to Gav's score, the "Dirty Tuppence" producers hope to include a number of original songs in the movie - by some of the biggest acts in the rock and metal genre.
The driving force behind "Dirty Tuppence" is eccentric Yorkshireman Warren Speed (49). And there is a quite a story behind how Warren has managed to get to the point where he is now about to direct, write and star in his fifth full-length feature film, despite so many obstacles, disasters and setbacks in his life.
Warren is bipolar (manic/depressive) but he sees it almost as a "superpower" - and no - this is not one of the movie's characters - but a real, very hard-working and driven Yorkshireman. Fifteen years since being diagnosed Warren now knows how to focus his mental health issue to benefit from its advantages ... and he is is adamant that if he was not bipolar he would never have been able to deliver four (ninety minute) movies with such tiny budgets in eight years. He has also wanted to make movies since he was twelve years old!
Warren's first movie "Zombie Women of Satan" (produced by his previous company Growling Clown), was released around the world on DVD in 2010 and made quite a splash at the renowned Cannes film festival the same year.
"Zombie Women of Satan" also aired on the horror TV channels in both the UK and USA, and went on to achieve over 1.9 million views when it was somehow illegally uploaded to YouTube (it was removed in 2015). But the fact is that nearly 2 million hits demonstrates the level of popularity his first movie achieved - despite the fact that Warren himself describes it as a "trashy, low brow comedy horror featuring his old alter ego - Pervo the Clown."
In 2017 the sequel "Zombie Women of Satan 2" was released. Outside of the uk it was released under the title "Female Zombie Riot"
Besides his movies, Warren's previous achievements include ...
• Writing an adventure text game called "Orc Slayer" that was published for the ZX Spectrum when he was 17.
• Producing and editing a rock music fanzine called "Iron Fist" for five years (1985-90) for whom he interviewed bands such as Metallica, Anthrax, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Heart.
• Performing male burlesque around Europe since 2008 - including ten theatre shows in Paris alongside the legendary Dita Von Teese.
• Playing bass guitar in a number of low key rock bands.
• Performing stand-up comedy on the UK comedy club circuit for seven years.
• Directing the Newcastle Gateshead comedy festival for three years.
• And ... performing as a certain clown (who genuinely can not be named for legal reasons) for twelve months entertaining children around Britain for a global chain of restaurants - before he was forced to leave due to his work in the horror movie industry.
• Spending five years as a drug and alcohol support worker.
• Being an "Avon Lady" for eleven ... very interesting ...months.
At the moment, besides his film-making, Warren promotes and DJ's the monthly Grindhouse Rock Night in Newcastle Upon Tyne, runs a monthly stand-up show (Funny Bones) at Durham's Gala theatre, and has just formed a new rock band called Texas Chainsaw Mascara.
But back to Warren's films ... and besides his two early "low-brow, trashy" Zombie B-movies ... he is also responsible for the 80 minute mockumentary "Clown Panic" about the alleged killer clowns in October 2016 ... and his latest "Coulrophobia" (roller derby girls go camping in the woods with horrific consequences) which was released in the UK on 13/11/17 (with the rest-of-the-world release scheduled for Feb 2018).
Warren also has a two part 150 minute documentary about latex clothing on its way ... with part one being released worldwide in December 2017 and the second part in 2018.
All of these movies can be found on DVD, Amazon Prime and various other digital platforms - and were released by a variety of independent distribution companies.
In 1999 Warren launched his original company - Growling Clown Entertainment - and very recently overhauled it in the summer of 2017 - revitalizing it and changing the name to Taxi For Otis Productions - so that it better represented his current goals and attitudes.
Warren has two adult daughters, a degree in Criminology, two dogs including a Great Dane called Otis, a long suffering partner, and lives near Haltwhistle in Northumberland.
People in the movie industry who know Warren and have seen his script for "Dirty Tuppence" believe it is by far the best he has ever written - and he's written a LOT!
Warren will play the role of the wheechair bound drummer "Egg" in the movie. And knows from experience that he can combine acting with the role of director, as long he makes sure he has at least six hours sleep a night. Warren physically collapsed from exhaustion on his first two movies and learned the hard way that he needs to take good care of his body during the intensity of a 3-4 week shoot.
The "Dirty Tuppence" production team are confident that the collective knowledge and skills of their cast and crew will allow them to create a truly memorable and high quality comedy horror movie - and are keeping their fingers crossed that this crowd-funding campaign allows them to get to work properly.
We hope you have the faith in Warren and his team that they can live up to expectations and deliver what promises to be a genuine comedy horror classic !! Warren certainly does ...
Our "best case scenario" is that our target of £60,000 is SMASHED !!!!
If it is, then our SFX team can have more money to hugely improve the splatter and gore level of the planned death, injury and accident scenes in the script.
Because at the end of the day, as well as being a comedy, "Dirty Tuppence" definitely falls within the horror genre, and who doesn't love a good horror !!!
So of course, we want to make the splatter and horror effects in the movie as impressive as possible !!!
Whether you pledge any money to us or not, please tell three of your friends about this movie and our "quest" to improve it.
The more people who are aware of this campaign then the more chance it has of success and the better we can make all of the gorey SPFX !!!
Thankyou so much for reading this ... and now please show us the ...
Risks and challenges
Once all of the SFX props have been created "Dirty Tuppence" will be ready to shoot.
We have already spent months casting the movie, securing cast and crew, locations and equipment. So as soon as we reach our funding goal we will begin confirming everything that is needed (particularly for the SFX work), so we can commence production in February 2018.
With a full post-production team already in place we hope to have the fully locked final cut of "Dirty Tuppence" by June 2018. And then the producers will decide which is the best distribution company to partner the movie with. We are in a very strong position too, as the movie already has a worldwide distribution offer on the table from an established American company.
Taxi For Otis Productions have a history of good communication with their audience and they will continue that during this kickstarter campaign with updates here as well as on social media, keeping you fully informed on the movie's progress.
If you have any questions about the film or concerns about your rewards at any point, please do get in touch with us!
And as soon as "Dirty Tuppence" is complete we will immediately begin producing your rewards to ensure that you get the perks you pledged for. We have a strategy in place to ensure that this process is completed efficiently, with all the rewards produced to the highest quality.
We can't make this film without your help and we want you to have the best possible experience with us as you join us in making this exciting film.
IF we do not achieve our target ... it is very doubtful the film will be made ... but let's not dwell on negatives.
Please spread the word to your friends and family so that we CAN make the movie !!!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
