New Stretch Goals and Video Walkthrough by UnstableVoltage!

We've been very lucky to have some great early momentum for our campaign, so I wanted to start giving you a look at some of the awesome stretch goals we'll be pursing if you help us get funded beyond our goal amount. Dominic is feverishly working to put together some visual concepts of these new features, but here are the descriptions for the stretch goals I just announced:

Stretch Goals

1. $34,000: Family Tree History View: We'll add the ability for you to track up to the past 50 generations of heroes in your family line, and display the chain in an awesome new "timeline" screen. It will show each hero, their fame score, and their parents before them!

2. $37,000: New World Type! Volcano/End Fortress: This area is the "Mount Doom" of Hero Generations. Only the wisest and bravest heroes dare travel here. We'll add a new art tile set, along with:

  • A new set of quests and quest objects: "Defeat the Demon", "Rescue the Stolen Mate", and more.
  • More challenge objects and monsters: Elementals & Chimeras! Lava, thunder storm clouds, demon fortress!
  • Special traits only found in this area.
  • Unique world generation rules: no towns, many volcanoes, many lava spaces.

3. $40,000: Building Tech Tree Tier 3 added! We'll add 6 new building types to our tech tree, bringing the total to 18 possible structures. We'll also add a few new town morph types to craft!

4. $42,000: New World Type! Island World: This area is made up of 50% water tiles. The remaining land is clumped into 4 islands, and each island can have a unique biome. With the right traits, the right hero can brave these waters and discover rare treasures and mates. We'll add a new art tile set, along with:

  • A new set of quests and quest objects: "Defeat the Giant Squid", "Catch a Fish", "Find Buried Treasure".
  • More challenge objects and monsters: Pirate Ships, Giant Squids, and Sea Monsters! Boats & Trader Shops!
  • Special traits only found in this area.
  • Unique world generation rules: 50% water, 4 islands, dock nodes.

UnstableVoltage YouTube Video Series Announced!

I'm also excited to announce that we'll be partnering with YouTuber and Journalist UnstableVoltage to bring you a series of videos that will give you a behind the scenes look at the development of Hero Generations. He has been doing some great work with a few other popular Kickstartered projects, and his first video for Hero Generations is now live! In it, he steps through the prototype build, and reveals a number of new game features we haven't announced publicly yet. You can subscribe to his YouTube channel to keep up with all the videos we'll be releasing.

Thanks for all your support, please keep spreading the word!

I love everything I see in the video (which is why I just backed :) ) and your full plans for the game make it seem all the more exciting a prospect. The only thing I would suggest in response to the video is that many events need to happen a lot more quickly. Combat, for example, could be a lot quicker if it happened in-place on the map instead of on a separate screen. Take a look at Dungelot for a good example of a snappy roguelike.

@Leon we'll definitely have a local leaderboard of the most famous heroes you've had. We would like to support online leaderboards, but we'll need to hit a stretch goal to afford the additional feature.

A hall of fame of the most accomplished ancestors would probably be cooler than a linear family history.
