Summer In The City
Summer is around the corner and Bloom is launching its second product. Nic is a light summer picnic blanket made of pure linen. The Nic takes inspiration from origami tessellations using stitch pleating. This oversized picnic companion measures 150cm by 210cm and the linen is 200g/m. Nic folds up easily to fit into any picnic basket or picnic bag.
Bianca's design is inspired by the Miura fold. This simple pattern on both sides of the Nic is achieved through a stitched pleating technique that breaks up the continuous lines.
Bloom is very much a Kickstarter company and we are excited to offer this community the opportunity to be the first to own Nic. We have come up with some great rewards for all you early birds, which we will add as the campaign progresses.
Nic is available in two summery colours. Blue with white stripes and Red with white stripes.
Nic is a design project rooted in the exploration of relationships between memory, art and math. Our products inject the magic of mathematical theory into everyday use.
The Miura fold (Miura-ori) is a rigid fold that has been used to simulate large solar panel arrays for space satellites in the Japanese 1995 Space Flight Unit.
About Peek and Flounder
Peek and Flounder are both handcrafted toys made from the luxurious cashmere wool textile cut from the pattern for the original Bloom Blanket.
The Flounder doll measures 20 centimeters, or 8 inches, on each side. Because they are handmade, each Flounder will be unique, with slightly different features and personality.
The Peek mountain range measures 30 centimeters, or 12 inches, along its long bottom side.
