A BIG thank you to all of our backers for helping us reach and surpass our goal! You can still find out more about BOB and how you can get your hands on one at our website.
The humble glasses case has just been re-invented. When we purchase our beloved specs or shades we are normally given the case as a freebee. It has one function- it protects our glasses. BOB is a glasses case that delivers more, it is a case for your glasses, a place for your devices, and a catch all for your bits and bobs. BOB opens up to allow you to display your tablet and phone while also storing and hiding all the pocket shrapnel you dump on your desk before you start work.
BOB is moulded for strength and protection, designed to be both comfortable and stylish. It will fit the largest of wayfarer glasses, and will stand tablets in portrait or landscape in two viewing angles.
BOB is no larger than a normal glasses case. The case is moulded in ABS, then inlaid with fabric to protect the glasses. Two wings wrap around the case and are held together magnetically. These wings fold down, and support the base of your phone or tablet, while the back of the phone or tablet rests against the case. The styling and function is deliberately simplistic. Subtle hinges turn the folding walls into storage section wings and they open/close with an addictive magnetic closure.
One day a member of of the design team came into work, put on her glasses, and asked “why is this case just a case, why can it not do something as it sits on my desk all day?” So over a morning cup of tea (we are British you see, coffee kicks in after 11) we sketched up some loose concepts and went straight into making some cardboard models.
By the end of the day we had a cardboard case that could hold our glasses, and with enough stiffening glue also held our tablet in portrait or landscape. We thought this is such a simple concept we have to take it to market.
Just in time for Christmas...
Who are Bang Creations? We are an award winning UK design studio that have been designing, developing and delivering products to market for large internationals through to start ups for the last 15 years. What makes Bang unique is that we invent new products that can be manufactured for the right price, for the right market through the right distribution channel.
We have just been awarded the 2016 German Design Award for our latest product Colandish which has just come to market globally.
BOB is the first product we have developed that we are taking direct to the end customer without selling through distribution first. Bang recognises that crowd funding ideas is the future for product innovation and we can't wait to get BOB live.
Risks and challenges
As this is our first Kickstarter project, we really do not want to muck it up. We know how hard it is to design, develop and deliver product to market as we have been doing it for businesses and start ups for over 10 years.
As a product design studio our clients have shared with us their most common mistakes: -
Not being 100% developed when handing over to production -
BOB has been developed with the manufacturer and the final CAD has been done by their tooling engineers.
Not getting the product made for the right price to be commercial -
BOB has been designed and costed to allow for a distributor margin as well as the trade margins should BOB make it to retail.
Not accounting for fulfilment costs -
We have contracted a fulfilment house to take the product from production line to your home address and costed their service into the product.
Not protecting your ideas or making sure you do not infringe other parties IP -
We checked that we are not infringing IP and have protected our design with patent, trade mark and design right.
